Arabian Chicken is a flavorful and aromatic chicken dish inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine. It’s often prepared with a combination of spices and herbs that create a rich and savory flavor profile. Here’s a simple recipe for Arabian Chicken:
Ingredients:
For the Marinade:
– 1.5 to 2 pounds of chicken pieces (bone-in or boneless)
– 1/4 cup plain yogurt
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground coriander
– 1 teaspoon ground paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 large onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground coriander
– 1 teaspoon ground paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 cup chicken broth
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
– Juice of 1 lemon
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients – yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, but overnight is even better for maximum flavor.
3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
4. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in an ovenproof skillet or a large, oven-safe pan over medium-high heat.
5. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and slightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
6. Add the minced garlic and all the ground spices (cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg) to the onions. Stir for about a minute until the spices become fragrant.
7. Place the marinated chicken pieces in the pan with the onion and spice mixture. Sear the chicken on all sides until it’s lightly browned.
8. Pour in the chicken broth and stir well. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
9. Cover the pan with a lid or foil and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
10. Remove the pan from the oven, and stir in the chopped cilantro, parsley, and lemon juice. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
11. Serve the Arabian Chicken hot, garnished with additional fresh herbs and lemon wedges, alongside rice, couscous, or pita bread.
