My husband and I have been married 35 years. We don’t wear our wedding rings either. I guess we’re secure in our relationship and it’s not defined by ring.
Because I am of Irish decent do I have to apologize to you because I make lasagna and carbonara? Don’t be ridiculous. And, my Mexican dishes are better than any “authentic” Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten. Stop apologizing for celebrating others’ cuisines; it’s embarrassing.
Wow… there is so very much to know about all of this! Thank you for the education!
Cultural appropriation is maybe the most stupid thing every thought of! So I'm not allowed to love and cook foreign foods? I've got two words for anyone that says that and they ain't happy birthday. And let's go further, and maybe a little too far .. some black people say white girls should not get braids. Well then should black girls be straightening their hair? So let's just fugget about cultural appropriation. It's simply RIDICULOUS and just gives "them" something else to bitch about. When I have a dinner party, I plan at least two weeks in advance for what I'm going to make and choose dishes as far as I can that can be made early on the day of and still reheat beautifully.
If it took 4 years for Jim to turn gray, that’s not quickly, it’s slow and gradual! Look at him! Don’t bother with hair dye, Jim- you look great!
Well done, Tara!! My favorite podcast.
Making ahead is great- I would make most of it ahead, but I would choose a roast, maybe a prime rib that you season the night before. Then you only have the roast to cook on the day of. Can’t beat a roast beef. Make a sauce the day before, like horseradish sauce, Stilton gravy-sauce…
Tara, you are doing great research- I’m totally impressed with what you have learned and how quickly! Now you have to have some wine tastings so you can hone your tasting differentiation between kinds of wine.
We spent a lifetime exploring the California wine country, we’ve also been to French wine country, and Washington and Oregon, and have explored the regional wines of Italy. Learning about wine is a lifelong adventure! You are always learning,
It’s Will- LAM- et , not William-ette, if that helps. 😊
You guys, don’t 27:03 forget all the casseroles and baked dishes you have! How about your baked pasta and eggplant dish made the day before! Or make a stovetop braised dish like chicken cacciatore! (Something not as long and involved as Beof Bourginone !)
Friday’s is popular with the 20-30 yr olds and involves beer and cocktails. And popular foods like wings & burgers. That’s why it’s called Friday’s- it’s always Friday night at Friday’s!.
Sauvignon blanc is too acidic to me. I never cook with it.
Aww, Tara , you know so much about wine. !!
Come back to us wine lovers 😄❤️🥂
If I were to do a pot roast I’d want to give it more flair with some different international flavors, like Hungarian, Moroccan, Brazilian…have something like a cous cous (what could be easier!) or a grain pilaf, or rice pilaf… For a dinner party, pot roast is delicious, but not very interesting and adding some different spices could really liven up the menu! The sides don’t have to be “matchy-matchy” with the cuisine, they could be typical American appetizers or soup, salad, what have you.
Make ahead a vegetable soup, roasted red pepper& tomato soup, or a leek & potato, or watercress soup, cauliflower soup w/truffle oil, for instance (my husband’s specialty! Does not involve cream or cheese!) We Americans are pretty used to “fusion” style cooking anyway! Cream soups might be too heavy before a pot roast dinner. Make a salad of just 3-4 ingredients that go well together. Prepare the dressing, wash & dry the salad ingredients day before, assemble day of. Just do something like radiccio, little gem, olives, artichoke hearts, & simple oil & vinegar with some herbs or lemon zest added. Grate parm-Regg .
You said tell us your ideas! Hope these inspire!
Color & eye appeal ARE EVERYTHING,
Very good podcast!
Tara, your hair looks beautiful!!
What brought you to live in Minnesota? How long did you live there? Did you find the food very different from your background?
I liked this podcast, I can make a lot of dishes but organizing them for a dinner can be frustrating. I love the wine choices
Love the French menu. Chenin Blanc (viognier) white wine for the coq ui vin. But I think you cook it with red wine. What red would go with that? Chardonnay is so America. —that is all I see in the stores in Florida. My favorite American white wine is Apothic white blend.
I’d you do some crock pot meals you could do pork loin with cranberry sauce and orange juice served with baked or mashed potatoes. Or a stuffed cabbage with a cucumber vinegar salad on the side and good crusty bread.
I wonder if Aunt Betty was listening…😅
I like the idea of learning what wine you think tastes good with your food selections. I don't expect you all to be cordon bleu certified when you suggest food that I might like and I think wine pairings would fall into that same category. I don't do any alcohol except wine so I can't speak to cocktails, but surely, they too would be the same idea. I'm not likely to try a sommelier course since I have no time or brain power to learn all that myself, much less take a test to see did I get it! But, if you want to accomplish that, I'd be delighted for you to make some of that sort of information more accessible to me with your videos … Enjoyed these ideas – TFS.
If you had finished the America xxxx xxxx comment, I would have fallen off the couch laughing. Too funny. I know you don’t swear on episodes but this was really funny.
do pot luck
I got such a tiramisu craving from this. It's my all time favorite dessert. I should learn to make it myself.
Another great podcast. I came away with some great ideas. For future reference… the correct pronunciation of Willamette – as in the Willamette Valley in Oregon – rhymes with damn it. Not to be confused with Wilmette in Illinois.
Shave the beard. Shave the beard . Shave the beard!
I'm a chronic handwasher. My ring goes in a basket when I get home. I never leave home without it.
Get-togethers with friends and family are almost always pot-luck for the most part.
Doctor Jimmy and Mr Jim…
Love the idea of Tara taking that wine class to better herself. That's one of the main objectives of these videos & I love that Tara is interested in doing the same thing that many of us are, working towards self-improvement. 🙂
With all of those great appetizers, I'd have to start eating dinner around 2:00 to have room for it all. Especially if you end with tiramisu! (Maybe start with that!!😂)
Making your Peposo tomorrow and freezing for a dinner party coming up next week. Papardelle is yum but I’ll do polenta for this.
Thanks for the recipe. Served it at a gourmet club dinner last year and the guests are still talking about how delicious it was! 😎
