i bought a pack of danmuji back in february and it was in my room for around 2 weeks. i went to a store and saw that the same product was refrigerated, so i figured that maybe mine should have been refrigerated as well. i put it in the fridge in the 0°C section and left it there, because i was too scared to eat it, thinking i had stored it improperly up until then. recently, i went to another store and saw that the same product was on the shelf, not in the fridge, so i thought that perhaps mine was ok to eat the whole time. i checked it, and it has little brown spots and dots and it looks kind of wrinkled. i would just taste test it but i’ve never had it before and i don’t know what it’s supposed to be like. has anyone encountered this? is it still safe to eat?

Honestly, that should be fine unless it has expired, usually left in room temperature discoloration and reduce in crunchiness will happen.

But personally, i wouldn’t eat anything left in room temperature for 2 weeks when it was supposed to be refrigerated.

I’ve always believed it should be refrigerated. Nevertheless, brown spots aren’t normal. I’d personally be wary of it.

It is a pickled product in a vacuum sealed bag. As long as the bag has not swelled, been opened and hasn’t reached expiration, you should be fine. It just won’t be as crisp/crunchy.
