So I found a recipe on youtube for cooking a flank steak in the slow cooker. The recipe calls for seasoning your flank steak then putting it in the slow cooker on low for 6 hours with no other liquid in it. This is his video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ORI6b2BwAQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ORI6b2BwAQ)

Heres a picture of how his steak turned out:

I just did that exact thing and checked my steak after the 6 hours on low, and its stringy like some string cheese, it has no flavor, its inedible, the best way to describe it is Meat Gum. You can chew on it to get some flavor but its impossible to break down and swallow.

What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me

The steak should be cut thin against the grain. That could explain why it is chewy. Unless the meat is very moist it could use something with liquid, perhaps an onion.

Flank steag is generally cooked hot and fast, not low and slow.

I think the problem is the recipe.

I can’t see how a flank steak wouldn’t fall apart after 6 hours.

That’s not the type of meat for low and slow. Also it was cut wrong.

  5. I use flank steak for Vaca Frita. Boil it, shred it and then fry it with onions and peppers.

I started to watch the video. I made it to 1:17 before I couldn’t stand it anymore.

Here is your help: don’t watch that guy anymore.

As others have noted, flank steak is not a good choice for a slow cooker. I can’t explain the video results other than cheating.

Flank steak in a slow cooker? Please, don’t believe everything you see on the internet.

Dying here. This sub has seriously the worst and most naive cooks of any sub. Ok, let me find something ludicrous and completely unvetted on YouTube then come cry on Reddit when it doesn’t work. Possibly the worst possible choice of meat you could find to slow cook; overpriced, tough, lean, thin. Only fish might be leaner and thinner. Lovely plastic liner and paper plates though. F me, I know it’s Christmas but I just can’t. Such bad fundamental cooking here every damned day.

Yeah I gotta be honest watching that video made me low key angry. This guy your watching for recipes has an IQ that hasn’t hit room temperature yet let alone an IQ high enough to cook a steak. Yours came out bad because it’s a terrible recipe as a thin cut like that just doesn’t need to be cooked in a crockpot. The fact that you were patient enough to try it twice is a treatment to your will and if you ate it to your iron stomach.

“I don’t think I’ve ever cooked one of these before”

Lol no offense but that picture is hilarious. It’s like a packet of gummy worms exploded. Report and disparage the og recipe video, maybe call the guy a couple vile names in comments too; it’s a terrible recipe you were given.

What everyone else said, plus, always cut steak against the grain.

  13. The amount of single use plastics in these pictures is insane.
