I am not an expert of Malaysian food, but I went there with a friend today and I really enjoyed this dish. There was curried rendang beef, boiled eggs, caramelized onion jam, cucumber, fried peanuts with rice. The dish was full of flavor and different textures. I will def go back again.

We’re very limited in our Malaysian food options in LA.
But take it from someone who’s lived in Malaysia for many years, this restaurant is leagues ahead of the Singapore banana leaf restaurant at the Grove

My favorite dish there, with the Hainan chicken rice a close second. I get this and a cup of white coffee for myself as a treat if the week was hectic. My kinda comfort food. These type of restaurants in SGV are the ones that I still eat out at – no bullshit 4% health & wellness fee, just honest, authentic, good food.

This is probably the best and honestly, only place in LA County that has good Malaysian food. It makes me sad that there are almost zero Malaysian restaurants in LA.

Ipoh Kopitiam is one of my favourite restaurants out here. It’s so so good.

Ipoh is ridiculously good. Some of the best Hainan chicken there.

Singaporean-American here. I have a deep fondness for this place. Their stuff is solid. While it lacks a significant amount of what makes it magical back home, it’s the best I have ever had at a restaurant here in the US. Until this place opened, I had accepted that if I wanted good hawker/kopitiam food, I’d have to make it myself.
Chicken rice is better at Savoy, even though they don’t use pandan, their chili is only at an ang mo level of heat, and they serve it very barebones. I like the presentation and the overall intent behind the dish at Ipoh, but Savoy’s chicken and rice are just miles above.
I have fond memories of my late mother feeding me half-boiled eggs and kaya toast as a child, and 33 years after her death, I sat down and had that exact thing at Ipoh Kopitiam. I was in tears. The only thing that could have made it better is if they had Killiney Kopitiam kaya or Ya Kun kaya.
