My mom gave me this crockpot when I bought my house. I’ve used it a few times and everything has turned out delicious. While the handles stay safe to touch, the body actually gets really hot. Is this normal for all crockpots? Is this a sign mine is too old? Do new slow cookers do the same? I love it and would like to keep it but not if this is a sign something is wrong. If this is normal, are there wraps you can put around a crockpot to prevent heat related injuries?

  1. The crocks on mine get hot. I never tried touching the metal part but conjecture that since the heating element is there it would get hot. Perhaps call the company and ask? Next time I use mine I will check but it won’t be for a week or so.

Mine get hot too. The metal outer crock, not the handles. I think it’s normal. Metal does transmit heat well.
