Hi everyone planting your vegetable garden can  feel overwhelming at times but it doesn’t have   to be a daunting task with the easy steps I’m  going to show you today you’ll learn how to   plan your best and most productive vegetable  garden ever so you can grow tons of veggies

Like these whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned  pro step number one when planting your vegetable   garden is to plant part of it close to your  house makes it a lot easier to step outside

And harvest vegetables for a meal it’s also really  fun to see your garden from your house it’s a lot   easier when it’s close to your house to water  maintain it and spot any problems before they   get out of hand step two to planning your best  vegetable garden ever this year is sun exposure

6 to 8 hours is ideal even more is better 8 to  10 hours you’ll have a lot more production with   your vegetables and if you’re not too sure where  to place your garden stake out an area of your

Yard and then just keep an eye on it over the  day see where the shadows fall from the trees   or surrounding structures and the area that is  the sunny spot is the ideal area for your raised

Beds or your containers and also keep in mind  the six plus hours of sunlight doesn’t have to   be consecutive get 3 hours in the morning 3 to  4 hours of sunlight in the afternoon also you   want to position your garden beds from north to  south facing south in the northern hemisphere so

They get the most sunlight exposure and also keep  in mind throughout the seasons that the sunlight   will vary the sun is lower in the sky in the fall  in the wintertime higher in the sky in the summer

Which means your garden will get more sun at  that time of the year here strategic placement   of your vegetables for maximum sun exposure is  also really important so you can grow the most   veggies possible so you want to place your  taller vegetables that need trellising such

As these runner beans or in the summertime I grow  cucumbers up this trellis here in the back of your   garden beds so they don’t shade out the front of  your garden bed with your shorter vegetables such

As herbs peppers and greens that way you make  the most of the garden space that you have step   number three to planting your best garden this  year is to plant it near a water water source   this will eliminate you having to haul watering  cans and buckets will allow you to keep your

Garden well hydrated a well hydrated garden is  a productive garden is going to help you grow   a lot of vegetables being near a water source  will also make it a lot easier to install drip

Irrigation so the water gets right to the roots of  the plants where it needs it the most then you can   put it on a timer and set it and forget it step  number four for your best vegetable garden ever

This year is decide what you want to grow your  veggies in whether it’s raised beds containers   inground garden or a combination of all three  just tailor your garden to meet your budget   your family’s needs and the space that you have  and you’ll be able to grow a lot of vegetables

Step number five is plant what you like to eat  begin by making a list of the vegetables that you   and your family eat on a regular basis and plant  those vegetables in your garden it doesn’t make

Any sense to plant veggies that your family’s not  going to eat that being said don’t be afraid to   include some brand new varieties that you’ve never  tried before could be a way to kind of expand your   palette and and also keep in mind that certain  vegetables thrive at certain times of the year

You want to plant the cooler weather vegetables  that enjoy temperatures under 75 degrees in the   early spring and fall in frost free zones in the  winter and plant the warm weather vegetables like   tomatoes peppers eggplant and cucumbers in the  summer months because they thrive between 70

And 90° that way you’re going to get the most  possible vegetables out of your garden follow   these easy steps now at the beginning of the  gardening season and you’re sure to have your   best vegetable garden ever this year with plenty  of fresh tasty vegetables for you and your loved

Ones to eat I cover all this in more detail in my  books and you’ll also find our seed collections   over at calikimgardenandhome.com and make sure you  comment below and let me know what you’re excited   about growing this year in your vegetable garden  thanks for watching we’ll see you in the next video

  1. Hello, I love watching all your videos. I am excited to grow some Herbs Ang some Tomatoes in the summer. I live in So California and I love growing vegetables & herbs. I stopped growing them but this New Year I’m going to start again.

  2. Hi Kim,

I have big plans for my garden this year. I am in the process of planting five fruit trees. I have already planted an AU Rosa Plum, and a Yellow Gold Plum tree, and am waiting for delivery of a Lapins Cherry, Bing Cherry, and a Stella Cherry tree. I am getting a 10ft x 20ft mound of dirt ready for an in-ground herb garden. The herbs will be sharing space with a Silver Maple tree, a Dogwood tree, and about ten dwarf azaleas. In March, I will purchase straw bales for Wine Cap mushrooms. Last on my list is adding a third GreenStalk Tower for the Twin Towers of Peppers. My first generation of tomato plants have all sprouted, some are ready for up potting. In five days, I start the bulk of my seeds for both my garden and a local plant sale. If that isn’t enough, I am planning on replacing three clusters of growbags with raised beds. It probably won’t get done until late next fall.

  3. I love your bags . Can't wait to use them. 10 gallon. Handles. Your awesome. I'm in western Colorado 😊so your lucky!😊

  4. I love you so much!!! You are so sweet and adorable and I absolutely LOVE your channel. Thank you for finding the time to share your garden and your knowledge with us. It is greatly appreciated!
