Anyone have a source for quarts of “Grade A Amber Rich Taste” maple syrup at a semi-reasonable price?
It used to be everywhere and it used to be called “Grade A Medium Amber”. If you didn’t know, there was a realignment of the maple syrup grades a few years ago. What was previously called “Grade B” is now called “Grade A dark color robust taste” – and that’s all the quarts I can find at Sam’s, Costco, Trader Joe’s, etc. And the stuff that used the be called Grade B is just not as good on pancakes although I’m sure it’s fine for baking.
Apparently the philistines in the supermarket buying departments were fooled into buying lower grade syrup in the grade realignment. Some say they like it better but I don’t agree.
