Is this expired or is it more of a “best by” type thing?
This got lost in the back of my pantry and I’ve never had tteokbokki before. It’s a little over a year and a half past the date on the bottom. Is this something that is ok to eat past the date?

Open it. The rice cakes may have mold but it’s very likely extremely stale. The sauce is probably almost black
From my personal experience from trying to eat extremely expired bibim naengmyun

Open it and look and smell. If it looks good, and doesn’t smell funky, send it.

It’s not worth the medical bills. Why not have your first tteokbokki be fresh and delicious, rather than questionable?

Nope. Don’t mess around with rice.

All dates on prepackaged food, except infant formula, are quality assurance dates set by the manufacturer, they are not spoilage dates.
Just open it and check the rice cakes. At worst, they’ll be moldy. But I bet they’re just hard/dry.

If I were you, I would not try.

It’s a goner. There might be mold in there too.

If it was a few weeks or months? Maybe. But that’s a year and 1/2 and unfortunately some issues cannot be smelled or seen after that point.

까지 means ‘until’ so expired.

I wouldn’t risk it. It’s been too long. Any fats in there are likely to be rancid.
