I was just wondering if this crab is safe to eat raw, and is there a specific type of crab used to make yangnyeom (that is safe to eat raw)/what to look for when purchasing them in H-mart?
Thank you for your help!

Usually crab is fully cooked prior to freezing. Therefore, it should technically be safe to eat after its thawed. Personally, I would cook it first.

This one is not cooked! But it’s probably safe to make yangnyeomgejang with. Just don’t try eating it *really* raw (as in just eating it as-is).

my roommate made me some raw marinated crabs with this brand and the next day when i woke up i realised i had trouble breathing and my arms n legs grew longer, they had to release me in the nearest water body so i could breathe.

They’re safe to eat raw as long as they were kept at the proper temperatures (usually noted on the box somewhere but it might have been on the large box that the product shipped in). If you don’t trust that the store followed the correct food safety protocols to keep the crabs at a safe temperature, then I wouldn’t recommend eating them raw.
