Yes it’s bad. Bad enough for me not to use it at least. I’ve been getting terrible red onions since like 2021 or so

I cut into another one and it had no spoiled looking rings but the middle was yellow, should I toss that one out too or is it okay?

Onions are not that expensive. Toss them and try again.

Throw out the onion. I’m pretty easy on the whole ‘is it okay’ thing. This is not okay.

I always push my thumb onto the top and bottom of the onion to see if it gives a little. I used to get these on occasion and haven’t gotten a bad one since.

If it was a choice of using that or no onion, I’d throw the bad layer and use the rest. If there’s a choice, use another one.

A tiny bit off subject, but that whole line of plates like yours have been shown to contain excessive amounts of lead and should not be used.
