Chain advertises “Korean barbecue in a cup.” Was expecting something along the lines of a fast food bibimbap, not layers of sugary slime. Googled it and people seem to like it. Now seeking validation.

I feel like I would love this on a day I hate myself.

I don’t think they should compare it to K-BBQ, but I like it for what it is. For those who haven’t had it, you choose your meat (or tofu), and it’s placed on a bed of rice, noodles, and cabbage and topped with a sweet and tangy sauce. You choose your spice level from 1-10. It’s fast casual, so expect a Chipotle/Illegal Pete’s level of quality.

It looks good but I can also tell this would fill me up in a few bites

This should be on rice. Rice soaks up the sauce and makes a pretty ok meal. The rice is literally in their name. I can’t understand the noodles.

Cup-bap is pretty common in Korea. It’s a snack and typically not bibimbap.

The key is putting the lid on and then shaking the heck out of it so all of the ingredients mix together with the sauce. For my tastes they usually over-sauce it, so my advice is try again with sauce on the side, add a wee bit, and then shake it all up. You get a nice spiciness and still get good flavor without it being a soggy mess.

I saw this on shark tank and loved the idea!! It doesn’t look great but it looks like a Noodles and Company version of Korean food. Not great, but it’s there and fast. Was it worth the money?

it looks awful. 🫣

Ive never liked any kind of food served in a cup. Especially with rice bases. Like how exactly am I supposed to mix it all without almost all the top layer falling over.

Is this ko-cups? I actually really like ko-cups as a fast Korean option 😭 although I find it weird they put the sauce on instead of on the side

Yeah so to add on a prior mention.
Cup bap is a street food. Not really a bibimbap concept. It’s more of let’s take yangyum or marinated chicken and add some snackings in with the goodness of the sauce. So typically some dduk(rice cakes). It’s served in a cup bc the portion is also smaller but it’s grab and go street dish.
It’s good if executed right. Koreans love sauce too so that mayo/cream/aioli sauce seems right. I had some with the drizzle and some without.
Rice is dependent on who sells/ makes it. But less traditional.

It looks like the americanized version of korean food, kind of like how americanized chinese food has orange chicken served on top of fried rice or americanized japanese food like spicy mayo on california rolls
