Only about 3 more months until the blue crabs come out of their hibernation under the mud in the Chesapeake, From right off my dock using chicken necks to the steamer, I catch them for my mom to make crab cakes…so simple but an absolute Maryland staple.

From Maryland. I see lots of Old Bay, we’ll done!

Absolutely beautiful! Is the process to steam them difficult with the old bay?

I love blue crab! I remember catching them with my kids on a dock in Georgia. We used chicken and when we pulled up the traps there would almost always be 5-10 in them every time. Great memories 😁

I boiled 2 dozen today in louisiana. $2/crab. I still have the spice on fingers.

Nice! I never understood the seasoning all over the shell. I know some of the meat gets the flavor but it seems like it’s a waste.

I don’t understand how to eat blue crabs. The legs barely had any meat on the ones I had. Ones I figured out how to get the body shell off I accidentally ate a lung thinking it was body meat.

There was tons of tomale and roe but I read to eat that in smaller amounts.

After all that I cracked the body in half again and tried getting to some meat but I could barely find any.

I really want to learn how to eat them with an expert because I think much of it was user error.

I’m excited to try east coast crab here in the next week or two when I head that way. I’ve mostly only had Dungeness and I can’t imagine putting that much seasoning on them.

    Southern or Eastern MD?

Obviously I love my state and its national treasure 🦀
