Bought this yesterday at a flea market and want to confirm if it’s real or not. Thanks in advance!

What do you mean real? I’m looking at it. It seems to exist.

From what I know, they should be a much darker grey almost black. Usually lighter colors like that are a different material than lava rock.
Maybe someone more experienced can answer.

Real basalt molcajetes are like $50 at any reputable store that I’ve seen.
If you can easily saw into it with a cheap serrated knife, it’s not basalt.

Grind the molcajete and teqolote together and see what it smells like

can i use oil of any kind in these? i love mine but i am scared to make sauces and incorporate the oil while in there or do i have to after the fact?

It looks real, and will look more real after a couple uses. They look like that when you first buy them, but turn a darker color (almost black) after they get moisture in them. Permanently.

Yes.

Cement would be much more uniform. This looks real
