I am making split pea soup tomorrow (following this [recipe](https://www.spendwithpennies.com/crockpot-split-pea-soup/)). I would like to use up some uncooked bacon I have in the fridge – what’s the best way? Toss it in raw at the beginning? Cook it and add it half way?

Is this classic cured back or streaky bacon slices?
I’d fry it first and add it with the melted fat to the soup. halfway through sounds about right.
