Hi, I’m Josh. I’m Ollie. And today we’ve come all the way to New Orleans to try some authentic Louisiana comfort food. Apparently here they have the Queen of Gumbo. Her Majesty. Welcome to Dizzy’s. Hello. How are you doing today? Thank you so much, very well.
He just said you’re the Queen of Louisiana comfort food. Is that right? Are we in the presence of royalty. Pretty much. We love royalty in England. Pretty much. This is a fourth generation, creole family. So we got a lot of good food here that you can try out today.
This is an official plaque that says Culinary Queen of New Orleans. You guys are in for a treat. We actually have an item today that’s not normally on the menu. It’s called the 7-Watt Pork Chop. It is a grilled pork chop with oyster dressing on top. So we got a lot of stuff.
Oh, we got a lot of food. Thank you so much. Thank you, your Majesty. This is what they’re most famous for, right? The gumbo. Can I just ask really quickly, What is gumbo? Gumbo is like a soup. There’s different versions of it, But we do a fillet gumbo.
And it has meat in it, pork sausage, ham, But it also has seafood in it. Shrimp and crabs. Well, gumbo has been around about 75 years. Oh my gosh. There’s so much. I guess you wanna try and get a bunch of different stuff. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh that is good!
It’s meaty but also you can taste the seafood in there. Oh that’s heavily spiced so it’s got this strong punchy flavour but because it’s a soup it’s not overwhelming. Literally you can tell they’ve been making this for flipping four generations. That has taken decades to perfect that recipe.
You know what I always think when we have something like this which is so full of flavour, so different from what we have in England. Oh we have nothing like that. Every year there must be a certain number of people from New Orleans who come to England And they try Gregg’s.
Luke just gave you a look. Can you imagine their disapointment. Luke loves a Gregg’s. For a long time I thought soul food was just food that made use of the Dover Soul. Like a fish? Yeah. No you didn’t. I did. Just because we didn’t have that concept. No.
The dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. That says all you need to know about English cuisine. The main event this is their Wednesday special with jambalaya. Looks like paella. It does a little bit. Jambafreaking-laya. It’s got veg in there, there’s sausage in there. What is going on there?
That’s heavily spiced. I thought that was just going to taste tomato-y. You know you get like the tomato rice at Chipotle? I’m just saying it kind of looks like that with some sausage and veg thrown in. The flavour keeps going. Right? I’ve never tried jambalaya before.
I’d never even heard of it to be entirely honest. Luke you said you made jambalaya before. I want to see how this compares to your homemade jambalaya in England. Yeah this might put you out of business. No, it’s got a real tingle. I’ve heard, apparently, this is good with hot sauce. Oh yeah?
Louisiana hot sauce. I think I heard her say that locals love this so much that, Sometimes they just drink it. Wow. That’s a lot. I haven’t tried it, but I saw someone else doing that, Putting that much on. Not gonna be able to taste anything. That’s a extremely strong smell. Wow, vinegary.
Completely ruins it. It’s okay, it’s not ruined, but it’s a very overpowering flavour. It’s very overpowering. It tastes quite a lot like fish and chips now. No shut up, what because of the vinegar? You’re an idiot. This is what, like the third, fourth state we’ve eaten our way around now?
First meal already, like it just feels like every state we go to, like this is more and more flavour. It’s so different. We don’t have this diversity of cuisine in the UK. And there’s definitely like similarities, like this fried chicken for instance looks,
Quite similar to some of the stuff we had in Savannah Georgia but you get the impression, Let’s give it a go. Look at that. Yeah, it’s freaking incredible. America! I reckon I can get a chant going. It’s like a conga at a wedding. People can’t resist.
Honestly, I start a conga at every wedding. I know you do! I’ve been with you to about five different ones. I’ve just realised, that’s chicken breast. It’s so juicy. I thought it was thigh. I genuinely haven’t had fried chicken like this since, The last time we were in the South.
So there’s presidents up on the wall. There’s invitations to the inaugurations of President Obama. Are you serious? And Joe Biden. There’s a couple of letters from George W. Bush. This place is a proper institution. I mean, she’s the Queen, man. Oh wow. And the President comes to visit the Queen.
Oh my gosh, it’s so good. This is unbelievable. That jambalaya and the, I mean, I keep going back and forth. Well the Gumbo’s definitely gon’ do that yeah. And the fried chicken as well. We know about gumbo and fried chicken. Okay, I’d want to come here every day if I lived here nearby.
Have you thought about franchising in the UK? No. I think there’s a prime and ready market. Oh definitely. Yeah, 100%. I can’t even remember what she called this but she said this is a special that’s not even on the menu. Wow. Interesting visual. Visual is out there.
Yeah I mean you know it’s special because it comes in a special conservatory. This is a pork chop? Covered with something. This is almost like some kind of sausage puree? That’s what it looks like? Yeah, there’s sausage in there. Sausagey. There’s greens. There’s a lot of greens.
You can taste the veg, the herbs. I wasn’t sure at first, but it’s actually really good. Wait, I think we need to try it with the pork chop. Surely that’s how you’re supposed to eat it. Can you chop me some? This is the oyster dressing, that’s why it was seafoody.
Oh wow, the combination, I really like that. I don’t really have a reference point for that. It’s really strange. It doesn’t taste like anything I’ve ever had. You’re washing it down with gumbo, like it’s a flippin’ cup of tea. It’s unbelievable. It’s unbelievable. They could serve this in pubs, in a pint glass.
Yeah, in a pint of gumbo. A pint of gumbo. Yeah. Yeah. Candy Jabs. I don’t know if we’ve ever had these. Very sweet. That’s very sweet. I wasn’t expecting it to be sweet. It’s called candy. It just tastes like candy. It’s like a dessert.
I’m finding that hard to slot into a category, Josh. I haven’t got space in my filing cabinet for that one. Next to that really like straight because that is quite fishy and sweet, But very salty at the same time whereas that’s just pure sweet. I mean it really tastes like a dessert.
What’s next Josh? Oh baby this looks good. Are those shrimps? Those are deep-fried shrimp. This is like Luke’s favourite thing deep-fried shrimp. That literally just looks like fish and chips. Kind of more professionally done version of what you buy at fish and chips. Less greasy. Oh my gosh the texture, oh my gosh!
That’s ridiculous! Oh my gosh! Okay, okay, okay, I know why that’s so good. Scampy, whenever you have this in the UK, you bite into it, there’s almost no shrimp texture. That is the distinct texture of a perfectly cooked shrimp inside. Yeah, but they’ve also done something revolutionary that we never thought to do.
What’s that? They spiced the batter. Yeah, there’s actual flavour in the batter. There’s actual flavour in the batter. Imagine it. These are so good. Yeah, Luke’s done. Luke’s done. This is Luke’s favourite food. And we just ruined it. So good. Bit of catfish. Look how chunky that fish is. Wow.
See how juicy that is. What are the odds that New Orleans does better fish and chips than the UK? You know what, when England says fish and chips is our national dish, It’s like we’ve chosen a profile picture that isn’t an accurate representation of our appearance. Like a catfish.
It’s what I was gettiing at. Sorry, I kind of spoiled the punchline. No, honestly you helped. It was a tough path for that punchline. I was like, wait what? That catfish is really damn good. I understand how Arkesha has been crowned. Like official culinary queen of New Orleans.
She is queen. Long live the queen. God save their gracious queen. Indeed. Send her victorious, happy and glorious. So this is only the first meal. We have set the bar extremely high. Where do we go from here? I honestly don’t know. No one shared the itinerary. There’s a lot more to try.
We’ve got Louisiana local fast food joints. We’ve got like southern style breakfast. I really want to have some more biscuits and gravy because since the last time we came to the south I’m completely hooked. There’s a lot more coming. In the meantime. We’ll see you jolly soon. See you later guys.

I live in man city but am from Portugal, and i was visiting America for the first time. And some guy said it way different then you
You guys should start a restaurant in the UK and serve foods you've tried in the states and edit them to suit British taste. Just remove the flavor and serve on toast…..lol
Now you see why Americans are so overweight.
I’ve been dreaming of eating some southern soul food for years! Looks so good
Saying UK doesn't have the diversity of cuisine was funny 😀 .. I mean the US is BIG. A better comparison would be the diversity of cuisine found across all of Europe with a bit of Middle Eastern too boot.
Wish they had turtle soup
She seems like a very sweet lady, who takes good care of her guests.
You made me laugh when drank the gumbo
Long live The Queen. Long live The Queen. Long live The Queen.
Most Americans have Dunlaps disease because of this. Dunlaps disease is when yo belly Dunlaps ova yo belt
I love that you're trying all the REAL American food. I feel like a lot of people associate the US with fast food because places like McDonald's and KFC have such a long reach. But we have so many great and unique food traditions here, and Louisiana cajun and creole is one of the best and most unique. It's a fantastic mashup on every level, with afro-latin, African American, French, Southern, indigenous, and other influences, land with sea, spicy and sharp with soft and comforting. New Orleans is one of my absolute favorite cities anywhere and I've visited several times, and the food is no small part of that (the other parts being the people and the music. The cocktails are good too :))
That Louisiana hot sauce is good but intense for newbies. It's an instant and sharp hot.
It is hilarious because as an American I think the food in England is horrible. Everything is so bland. I have to take spices and hot sauce to every restaurant.
Hear me out. Buvna food tour season 2.
Imagine being Crystal hot sauce, seeing them use your brand and then hear them call out your #1 competitors name.
There's two types of fat Americans
1. People who shovel whatever cheap crap and can't stop themselves
2. People who eat like this every meal
This is excellent creole food but I wouldn't really call it soul food. That's a little plainer and cheaper. Collard greens, corn bread, pork chops or salt pork, black-eyed peas. That's more soul food.
I thought that was Labron in the background ha ha ha!

Why tf dont we have this food in the uk 😢
I love you guys so much. Please never say " paella with an "L" sound , it's paella – pye-ay ah!!!!
You will not find better food than right here in Louisiana! But you went to the wrong side of the state. You got to come to the "heel" of the boot. Best food around!
You forgot to eat grits Originated from the native Americans and is a staple in the South for Breakfast. Hence Shrimp and Grits !
No hog head cheese??😑🫣
I love everything I've seen on this. New Orleans can cook like no one's business. Heck yeah!
Welcome to my home town!
As a Brit living in canada close to the US. I can tell you that they cannot go back to English food again. They've been ruined for life by that amazing food.
I’m from Houston. We have a lot of New Orlean folk here. To me this is just normal cuisine. But it’s crazy to see that England is mind blown. Well not crazy they’re not known for flavour. But yeah.
I was so hungry watching that.😂 I use New Orleans' Chef Kevin Belton's recipe for gumbo. Its a lil bit thicker but so darned DEEEEEEELICIOUS!!! Y'all stay safe! ✌️🙏👋😸🇱🇷
lol as a Cajun… gumbo has been around for a lot longer than 75 years lolol
C’mon guys, crystal ruined it? I live in ND and that’s a run of the mill condiment for me.
Gumbo has been around longer than 75 years. It came from Africa and it means okra. Also, it came to America in 1719, which is way over 75 years. I do not know why that woman said 75 years.
I’ve only been to Louisiana once when I was thirteen and at that time I was a VERY picky eater and didn’t wanna try anything and I’m kicking myself for it now. Man I need to go back and try some of the food
When I go to London, I find local food bland. Guess I'm used to Gullah, Jamaican, Creole, Low Country cooking.
Food is definitely good there but Leah is the queen. Best chicken is Willie maes but you you boys know that part already
Cajun food: warm and spicy delights that’ll hit your tastebuds like the bayous of New Orleans on a hot July afternoon. Usually, you’ll get plenty of bread, with some vinegar sauce on the side, to cool the tongue from all that spice and heat.
Tomato rice in Chipotle?
You made a comment about the catfish. It's called a catfish because it has feelers like a cat's whiskers. They're good eating! Now, you boys can go back to the UK and open a restaurant called America's Best or something like that and serve the best US food you've eaten, if you want. You've already corrupted some schoolboys with American food, so you're off to a good start..
These guys seriously look like they've been deprived all their lives. Just makes me wonder what UK food tastes like.
Something about brits Trying DELICIOUS American Food in general is just so wholesome ❤️
I love Jolly and KoreanEnglishman and have watch you guys for years and years but I’m started to get a bit disappointed by the vitriol you throw at UK food these days. It’s not rubbish, it is often very flavourful – not necessarily with spices because that’s not suitable for our climate but gorgeous herbs definitely. There is plenty of variation in dishes across the country and most of them are – like in any country – grown from the historic jobs of the communities living there. I don’t know, I feel like you do us a disservice and it feels unkind when your channel has always been a zone of love and happiness.
It's pronounced "NAW-LINS," guys! So much fun to watch your adventures!💕❤👏
Love this dad! My hero i was bad cop also, love you cared enough to make her change…mom whats up with you letting her slink out??? Dad knows girls ..and more he knows boys. Girls make them work for you, men dont want or respect easy. They never take easy girls home to meet momma. Js
Ive been saying this for a while. Black folk could make ao much money if we open restaurants in other countries
If they keep eating like this they’ll be fat like most of America
It would have blew their minds if they would have mixed the yams with the Mac cheese
For England to be a country that conquered a lot of the world for spices they sure refused to use it in their dishes😂
