
Today I went to an eastern European supermarket in Germany and got an assortment of Tinned Fish (‘Deenz, Salmon and Sprats).
Top left (red): Estonian grilled “Sardines” (Sprats) in white wine and tomato sauce.
Top right (white, round): Latvian smoked Sprats (sprattus sprattus) in rapeseed oil.
Mid left (white): Croatian ‘deenz (Sardina pilchardus) in tomato-vegetable sauce.
Mid right (black): “Kieler” Sprats (sprattus sprattus) in rapeseed oil. Kiel is a city in Germany famous for smoked sprats, but the Stamp says LV so it’s produced in Latvia.
Bottom right (black, round): Glawtorg (brand in blue) baltijskie (Baltic) schproti (sprats) w masle – smoked sprattus sprattus in rapeseed oil. Also made in Latvia.
Bottom left (yellow): Salmon (salmo salar from Norway) in mustard sauce packed in Latvia.
