That classic lunchtime meal, tuna salad, is veganized here with chickpeas and made even healthier by using tahini instead of mayo. It’s delicious, whole food plant based, and even a bit “fishy” if you use kelp granules!

In 2020, I finally completed my mission to cook every recipe in one of the most popular, comprehensive vegan cookbooks–the Veganomicon. Who says that year was all trash??

No-Tuna Salad Recipe:
1 (15oz) can chickpeas, drained/rinsed
3 tbsp tahini
1 tsp Dijon or spicy brown mustard
1 tbsp maple syrup or agave nectar (I recommend halving this amount)
1/4 cup diced celery
1/4 cup diced pickle or relish
1 tsp capers, drained and loosely chopped
healthy pinch sea salt (or Kelp granules for a bit of “fishy” flavor) and black pepper

Welcome back to the vegan test kitchen everyone today’s recipe is so simple it’s probably going to become your next go-to lunch and because we’re continuing our whole food plant-based series it’s also oil-free which is great today we’re making a no tuna salad sandwich i think you’re gonna like it so as
Always all the ingredients that you need are listed below let’s get started all right like i said this is gonna be pretty simple there are not that many ingredients involved so the first thing you’re gonna do is grab a can of chickpeas drain it and rinse it and we’re going to
Put these in a mixing bowl all right and we are going to smash these as much as possible and you can leave some of these whole if you wish but we do want this to be more of a shredded consistency all right i think that is good now to
This we’re going to add a quarter cup of diced celery and a quarter cup of diced onion and we’re going to add a teaspoon of chopped capers along with a quarter cup of diced pickles or pickle relish one teaspoon of dijon or spicy mustard three tablespoons of tahini one
Tablespoon of agave nectar or maple syrup and an optional tablespoon of roasted unsalted sunflower seeds and of course we are going to flavor this with a little bit of black pepper and you want a healthy pinch of sea salt or in my case i’m using kelp granules because i want
To add just a little bit more of a fishy flavor to it this has a nice subtle taste of the sea if you will All right we’re just going to give this a good mix and of course you want to adjust the seasonings if you need to add a little bit more salt or kelp granules or pepper do that all right just grab some really nice healthy whole grain bread put some chopped tomatoes and onions and
Lettuce on there and you have a fantastic sandwich this is a big old sandwich So i’m going to try a little bit of this by itself too this is a really good no tuna salad i would suggest maybe cutting back on the maple syrup or agave nectar it’s a little too sweet for me i think that’s a little unnecessary but all the other flavors
Are there i mean you have the pickle which is nice the capers come through a little bit and i definitely suggest getting the kelp granules because not only is it a nice salt substitute but it does give you just a very slight fishy taste it’s not it’s not overpowering at all
But you know it’s nice and creamy that’s what the tahini is for there’s no oil no mayonnaise it’s just a really good healthy no tuna salad sandwich and you could even eat it with crackers too because you know that’s what it’s there for it also stays together really nice which
You know doesn’t like fall apart all over the place all in all this is a fantastic no tuna salad sandwich that’s healthy so i hope you liked what you saw today if you did hit a thumbs up i would love you for it and make sure to subscribe
And share and comment and all that good stuff i’ll see y’all next time You

Tehhhhhhhchnically tahini has sesame seed oil in it since it is sesame seed butter. Thus this recipe is no oil added. 😂
Looks amazing! But I’m curious…Why the maple syrup/agave? Won’t that make it too sweet? 🤔 Just curious for those who have tried this. Thanks !!
I’ve made a very similar recipe before and it’s addicting. We ate it for lunch for a whole week lol.
Looks amazing!
I know what I'm having to lunch today.
Thank you for that, looks delicious.
Why would you use the word tuna even if you call it no tuna, just call it chickpea salad. Sounds as if what you actually want is tuna and not chickpeas
Thumbs up for recipe in the description!
Capers! Why didn't I think of that! I'll give this version a try. Thanks for doing a WFPB theme!
Mmmmm! Delicious, I love it. Thank you! 🙂
I immediately tried this yesterday as soon as I had finished watching your video. Delicous stuff, thanks! And so fast to prepare.
Being a salt addict, I always add a little Old Bay's….
Tuna isn't vegan! Tuna is a fish species.
Love this! Definitely gonna add this to my "packed lunch" list.
Omg I hope your single
Still transitioning to vegan abs this sounds and looks amazing. Definitely adding it to my recipe book. I wonder if adding the vegan egg from your previous egg salad video would really make it taste like no tuna salad???🧐
I love chuna. Haha. Mine has less ingredients, cuz I’m picky. Lol but it’s still so good. Great tuna substitute for sure!
Hands down I just LIKE you! No foolish excess chatter. Just great vegan dishes that I need after three heart attacks. I made your deviled eggs as eggs and fish I miss the most. I’m here for the no tuna recipe today. Thanks for your videos. Note: cut the black salt way down if you have heart trouble people. 👍
Well, now I'm craving this no-tuna sammie!!
Thanks. Keep the good food coming
Love it, short and sweet and with no salt, oil or sugar
That´s SAS and SOS 😁😁
I love chuna. Never thought to tahini.
That looks so delicious, I just subscribed!

I've never tried adding Tahinni… does it lend a Sesame flavor ?? 🤔 subbed your channel 😀
