There’s a new South Indian restaurant in North Austin called Desilicious Cafe and it’s vegan/vegetarian. And has some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had and I know good Indian food 😆 they have Thali that can be all vegan if requested. This was my lunch today. So so good! But it doesn’t seem like they get much traffic in there and I NEED this place to stay open!

Been missing veggie Thali since Bombay Express changed hands. Have to check it out!

What did you get? I’ve never tried most of the items on the menu and am used to chicken tikka masala. But I want to try new things

I wish I could try Indian cuisine freely, it always causes stomach issues for me. This looks so good, maybe I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Thali isn’t on their on line menu – how much was it?

Following. Hoping to try a thali and this place might get the nod over Sangnam (or I do both 🙂 ).

I’ve been there several times and everything was good. I’ve had the Mysore Masala Dosa (spicy layer of chutney painted inside dosa, stuffed with potato masala), tomato uttapam (thick flat pancake made of same batter as dosa), onion rava dosa (no potato masala, semolina based dosa instead of rice-lentil base), karivepaku podi idli (rice-lentil batter same as dosa steamed into soft fluffy bite size cakes and tossed in spice powder and a tempering of curry leaves—deeeelicious item!), and regular podi idli (similar to former but without the tempering), maybe all of this in three visits with friends. I’ve also had their masala chai and filter coffee. Food is good, sambhar is good, chutneys have been inconsistent but generally good—Andhra style with a tomato chutney, peanut chutney, and regular coconut chutney.

Desilicious Cafe is a pure-veg idli-dosa-snack based menu with owners from Andhra Pradesh, totally different from Sangam which is another genre of menu with owners from another state who speak another language. I would not compare them. You might compare Desilicious to other similar idli–dosa Andhra owned places like Suprabhat or Sri Krishna Cuisine (though Sri Krishna recently expanded to include an Andhra non-veg menu, also). So far Sri Krishna has been my favorite but Desilicious is also great. We’re lucky to be getting so many awesome varieties of South Indian places.
