My daughter (5YO) hates BBQ sauce, how can I rub pork ribs? I haven’t found a good recipe and would like to explore something else aside salt and pepper

How the A.1 works? Is before or after the smoke?

Thanks Family!

Can you clarify what you’re trying to do here? Are you looking for a binder to help the rub stick or are you looking for a finishing sauce? Don’t use A1 for either of those. I don’t see the ingredients or flavor working well with ribs.

If you need a binder, use yellow mustard.

If you want a finishing sauce, google some Asian or Cuban rib preparations. Also worth checking out Memphis style dry ribs that don’t use a finishing sauce.

I sometimes finish my ribs with Bachan’s Japanese BBQ sauce which tastes nothing like and American BBQ sauce. They are always a huge hit.

For Cuban style, check out an ajo (at least I think that’s the name) finish. It’s a lime, butter, and garlic sauce.

Thanks will edit my post. Is the finished sauce

You can use mustard to bind the rub to the ribs

THANKS TO EVERYONE, I talking about the finish sauce, I don’t want the sweet taste at the end

Try Hoisin sauce as an alternative.

Bbq is not always sweet, there’s a million different kinds…you can just add a vinegar like apple to cut the sweetness. Or you can try sauces like Thai peanut sauce, charred pineapple bourbon….

I don’t use a finish sauce on ribs. I put the rub on with no binder (not needed) and then wait a few minutes until it draws moisture out and wets the rub thoroughly. Then I sprinkle brown sugar, tapping through a wire sieve, to lightly coat. The finished ribs look thinly glazed.

Chili sauce and jelly. Combine and heat it to render down the jelly. I like apricot preserves but just about anything will be ok. Trust me. I know it sounds weird but it’s actually a pretty good BBQ sauce, especially on pork and chicken.

Mustard base or dry rub are two alternatives

Olive oil works fine as a binder too. It’s what I use as I’m a dry rub only rib guy

Just don’t sauce them, or a section of them. I don’t always sauce mine, and I have family that prefer them dry rub only.

Ketchup, chili powder, brown sugar, vinegar, or mustard is all you need to make BBQ sauce. All staples in my kitchen and most everyone else.

If you have ketchup, vinegar, and a couple basic spices you can make your own BBQ sauce

Make your own! Cook up some diced onions in butter, add Ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar or molasses or honey, some smoke if you have it and whatever other spices you want aka dry mustard and pepper.

Try mixing the a1 with catsup. Maybe a bit of mustard. Or even try experimenting using jelly or jam with the A1 and catsup.

Catsup worstishire and white pepper that what my dad used when we hD nothing.

    Raspberry and hot sauce

Sometimes I sprinkle Lea and Perrins on ribs as a binder. I usually just use mustard.

  17. Just make dry rub ribs. No need for bbq sauce
