Borek, a culinary gem from Turkish cuisine, has a rich history that traces its roots back to the heart of Middle Asia. Traditionally, borek was crafted with ingredients like meat, potatoes, and cheese, but lately, it has seen a delightful transformation with the inclusion of vegetables. I recommend experimenting with ingredients like mushrooms, spinach, zucchini, and eggplant to create your perfect vegetarian borek.

Welcome to my messy kitchen…
I’m Berrak. I’m not a professional chef or a writer. I’m just a food photographer who loves collecting recipes. I was born and raised in the lively Mediterranean city of Istanbul, where I was fortunate to discover the rich Anatolian cuisine, thanks to my grandma’s amazing cooking. My mom inherited her recipes, and now it’s my turn to gather and cook these dishes.
Growing up, we made everything from scratch. This made our meals healthy and delicious. My mom didn’t like using pre-made convenience foods, so I learned to cook homemade dishes. I started cooking every day when I went to college. My friends loved my food, especially the ones inspired by my mom’s recipes. I felt like I had to do something more with these recipes, but I wasn’t sure what.
After finishing college, I got into food photography. While I explored many different cuisines in this job, I never stopped thinking about my mom’s and grandma’s kitchen. I felt the need to collect and improve these recipes, which led to the creation of this blog. Here, you’ll find a variety of vegetarian Turkish dishes and healthy Mediterranean recipes.
Now, our home embodies the entire Mediterranean cuisine, from Spain to Lebanon. Olives, oranges, tomatoes, dolmas, boreks, mezzes… I hope you enjoy these recipes…
