Why are my squash seedlings leaves turning yellow and brown?

Most likely, a nutrient deficiency. They just need to be potted up into a larger container with additional soil. Happy gardening!

Take them out of that ‘pot’ and see if there is a jungle of roots. If so repot immediately.

This poor guy outgrew his pants last month.

    Maybe Gandalf can help.

It’s very early for that! Too much water, not enough light. Pinch new growth back to develop stronger roots.

If you aren’t ready to put it outside put it in a bigger pot.

My chayote squash looked like this before I planted them out. It was plenty warm in my house and they weren’t root bound at all, but they did not look happy. I planted them out a few weeks ago and the color has improved significantly. I’m not sure if it was the sunlight (though I can grow tomatoes through fruit production under my grow lights), airflow (though I had a fan), maybe just needing a deeper container? Maybe nutrients?

That said, this is my first time planting squash ever, so I’m very clueless.

Leaves turning yellow is usually a sign of lack of nutrients, specifically nitrogen. if you’re not ready to plant it out in its forever home, pot it up into something a couple sizes larger with lots of compost.

Give a little nutrients (fertilizer) and potentially pot up depending on how long you have to wait to plant outside. I usually direct sow squash. When is your last average frost date?

Maybe pot is too small now. Put it in the ground.

I’ve aways heard squash roots are not happy with being transplanted – so be careful when you transplant them or pot up. The plant looks stressed which might impact yield too.
