Decoy Limited Merlot is quickly becoming our go to table wine / everyday drinker. Really enjoying it when we’re not drinking a $40-50 bottle of Cab. My local shop has it for $25 a bottle. But was curious if anyone has done a side by side w the regular decoy. Is it worth the $7 up charge? Was hoping to buy a case.

Decoy is the cheap one, right? Duckhorn is the really good one? I’ve had Decoy and boy was it disappointing. I am not a sommelier. I just didn’t like it.
Decoy … “After Dark”
I’m the type to get two bottles of Rodney strong for $15 if I’m drinking merlot
But I’ve never had decoy or duckhorn for that matter I didn’t enjoy. Probably wouldn’t spring for a case but that’s personal preference
If you’re typically drinking CS the duckhorn cab sauv is excellent value, can grab them for under 20 bucks (as I’m sure you already know)
Duckhorn has become a publicly traded company $NAPA. Just another gimmick to have more items on the shelf in your mainstream market. That being said, the Duckhorn merlot I had years back was one of the best California merlots I’ve ever had.
They are taking the juice that’s not good enough for their Duckhorn label and calling it decoy.
🥱
At least on the Pinot Noir and Cabernet, I failed to see how it was appreciably better than the regular Decoy.
If you’re looking for a good Merlot in that price range, I highly recommend Crossfork Creek Merlot. It’s Sheridan’s second label.
