Sorry for the poor quality of this video. I had some problems with my editing software and I will fix this asap.

Hello and welcome to my channel in today’s video I’m going to show you how to make the most perfect caramelized onions let’s jump straight into this to get this recipe started we’re going to peel and finely slice one kilo of brown onions and now that all the onions

Appeared and we have all the leftovers you can either save these for a stock or just get rid of them then we’re going to come through and thinly slice them [Applause] [Applause] And now that these are all finely sliced and you still have your fingers we’re going to transfer these into a large bowls now to get these onions cooking we’re going to bring a large heavy-based saucepan to a high heat we’re then going to add three tablespoons of clarified

Butter and what’s it going to add one teaspoon of olive oil and the oil will help the butter not to burn now we’re going to allow this to all melt and now that that’s all melted we’re going to add the onions Just going to give down a mixer to make sure that all coated in the buffer in the oil and now we’re going to leave these for five minutes to cook before we start them again and after five minutes you can give them a stir now we’re going to

Leave these to cook for ten more minutes and in the meantime I’m going to juice my oranges here I have two oranges we’re just going to peel them and put them through the juicer and an easy way to do that is if you just take the top and the

Bottom off and then carefully come round on an angle slicing down we’re going to add our oranges And here we have our freshly squeezed orange juice now after ten minutes is up I’m going to give this another stir and all that on the bottom of the pan is the flavor we’re going to let this cook for five more minutes and then we’re going

To add some sugar and the orange juice and the orange juice parts completely optional to this recipe but adding orange juice and the sugar will create a syrup and just make these ultra sweet and ultra delicious now after five minutes we’re going to add the sugar and

Orange juice here I have half a cup of unrefined castor sugar and those oranges yielded me half a cup of orange juice going to start out through and now what this syrup will do will bring up those delicious flavors stuck to the bottom of the pan we’re now going

To cook this down for half an hour stirring it every 5 minutes [Applause] And once you get to this stage which is a nice dark caramel color we’re going to turn it down onto a low heat and cook it for five more minutes and then your onions are perfectly done I’m now going to take these off the heat and allow

Them to cool down and now that they’ve cooled down a little bit I’m going to transfer it into a sterilized jar and there we have it beautiful rich and delicious caramelized onions and there’s so much versatility with these I think this recipe goes perfect in a burger but

You can pretty much put on any savory item that you want I hope you’ve enjoyed this video and learn something if you haven’t done so already please click that subscribe button down below and don’t forget to like share and comment and if there’s any recipes that you’d

  1. I'm just wondering if you kept the white part on the oranges for a bit or bitterness

  2. Why not let the onions caramelize themselves? It takes about 45 minutes on medium fire…. Why add sugar and orange juice?… also high heat?… you burning the onions.

  3. Was shocked when you dump all that sugar in haha. I got a sweet tooth but that is too much. I might cut the sugar to half if making this.

  4. Chop the onions and put them into a bowl. Clarified butter and oil, and then pour the onions from the bowl into the saucepan. So much easier than chopping the onions, leaving them on the board, and then pouring them from there into the saucepan.

  5. You can't not love this guy. 3 years ago turning it belters like this. Still making this today. Thank you chef.

  6. I’m not so sure about it. You probably don’t need to add oil, I hope it wasn’t olive oil, clarified butter has a smoke point of 450. Oil only gets added when cooking with regular butter. Two, there is so much sugar, one cup! If you add so much sugar to anything it will sweeten any vegetable up creating same caramelisation effect. Try it with eggplant, bell peppers, anything… it will be same. It’s also be very unhealthy, you practically eating burnt sugar. Three, why does your container must be sterilised? Clean container sure, I understand.

  7. Surely that is not just orange juice, as it is creamy and thick in texture. Not even freshly squeezed oranges come out looking milky.
