  1. Pretty cool for him to dabble in Somali food. Pretty great coverage of a lot of cuisines he’s never had before, on this trip to Toronto.

For everyone asking “why do you keep posting this guy’s videos”, “he’s so blah”, “he doesn’t know how to eat this food”, etc — every major Toronto media publication has been writing about him, and both Afro’s Pizza and Biscuit 2 Basket have been completely selling out since his visits. The Keith Lee effect is real, and I honestly think he’s doing good work highlighting the moms and pops shops that can use the extra traffic. And that’s from someone who hadn’t even watched his videos or heard about the Keith Lee effect until 4 days ago.

  2. The Tres Leches cake at Sahan is I believe supplied by D’Amo. Worth checking them out too if you have a sweet tooth.

Who’s this guy and why’s he so popular? Don’t see what sets him apart from other food vloggers

I had never heard of this guy before he started his Toronto run but I’m now at the point I find him so wholesome and hope he has an amazing life! I love that I’ve never heard of the places he’s been searching out.

I love how Toronto is showing him foods from so many different cultures. Our city is lowkey amazing.

For people confused about Keith Lee, I’ve been following him on TikTok for a year and he’s the right kind of person to be made famous. He started out just sitting in a kid’s chair at home reviewing local Vegas spots. It caught on and he’s used his fame (16M+ followers) towards good.

He tips in the hundreds, if not thousands, he takes no money from small businesses while holding big brands accountable to pay for his service, he does not accept free meals from them, and does everything he can to be a mystery shopper to avoid special treatment. He repeatedly stresses he’s not out to destroy places and is always choosing his words very carefully to that effect. His entire purpose is to uplift struggling restaurants that may have great food and service but just doesn’t have the marketing. All this while dealing with social anxiety.

Personally the joy in his videos is when he goes in to talk to the owners, leaving money behind to pay for people’s meals, and the follow up videos showing lines out the door. Having him here to discover new dishes is a great way to showcase this city.

Only thing I dislike is that I live in the west so he hasn’t tried anything near me lol

I really like how he tries food that he’s not a fan of or doesn’t know about. I remember some people commenting “oh he’s a food critic but doesn’t know what veal is” he’s just a dude sharing his opinions about food and is open about his biases.

It oddly gives his opinion more weight to me because he’s upfront about it.
