I took a cue from the warm spices and other Pho-inspired ingredients in my Oxtail Stock to make an unconventional but very comforting beef and barley soup. A lot of recipes will instruct you to cook the barley separately, but I like how the grains soak up the flavor of the beef stock and become one with the soup.

I don't know of anyone who has a tea strainer, but most people who drink coffee probably have filter paper. Tie one of those up and that will work, too.

barley in soup is a big childhood comfort food of mine. Mum always cooked with it.
RE: soup spices… I put them in a coffee filter and close it up with a twist tie 😁 perfect lil spice pouch
Tea infusers and disposable tea bags are amazing underrated tools in the kitchen! Like who has the time to make a bouquet garni?! And if you get a metal tea ball infuser on a handle, it doubles as a dusting wand for flour and icing sugar!
Since you mentioned coloring…I noticed how great you look in that chocolate brown. I believe you're an "autumn" and ought to wear warmer shades of lipstick.
I did the same but deglazed my onion pan with hot dog stock.

A 50-50 beef stock and chicken stock is also really good. Consider some shoyu and MSG for seasoning, and – gasp – a pkg of gelatin for viscosity.
Garnish with fennel fronds!
