Grilled some burgers last night at a decent temperature (about 400 degrees, nothing crazy) and my Silverbac caught fire. This was only about our 3rd or 4th use since our most recent deep clean. Is my Silverbac ruined? Can I still use it as is? Do I need to repair it?

Looks like a grease fire. You cook pork butts recently in that?

Well, I would totally clean the inside and outside like very indepth.. then start it up and with a secondary probe near the actual temp probe do a few temp settings.. like 250, 325, 375 and 400. If it maintains temp after cleaning do running it through the temp ranges.. go to an auto parts store and get a can of high temp black spray paint and tape it off and repaint

I looked at the parts they have on the Silverbac site, it looks like all generic parts. So any part can be replaced with generic parts.

You have the auger, the internal temp probe, auger bushing, motor and controller board. Your internal temp probe may be caked with soot, if the temp isn’t true when it heats up, try and see if cleaning the probe fixes it. That’s all mine needed when I did a couple oopsies like this.

There are better tools for grilling burgers than a pellet grill.

The only fire I’ve had in two years on my Traeger was a grease fire caused by burgers. It literally caught the drip tray liner on fire. I’ve read that people who use foil have to be careful because any seam or picket could cause grease build up and a fire hazard. I went to not using liners or foil and scraping my drip tray after every use and haven’t had any fire problems. Eventually got a Blackstone for burgers.

You should be able to salvage this. Replace any ruined parts. I would sand any bare metal and repaint with high heat primer and paint and keep on smokin.

This is why I say high temp cooks and searing on a pellet grill generally aren’t worth it. Gotta have it spick and span since grease and drippings in low temp smokes don’t burn off

Scrub it with some steel wool and spray it with some black grill paint, it’ll still work

How do grease fires even occur
