hey guys I’m hila welcome to HLA cooking
so y’all know perhaps that I’m staying
at my mom’s house temporarily so today
I’m actually shooting at my friends
Natalie’s and Billy’s kitchen so thanks
Natalie and Billy for letting me use
your kitchen to make some mashed
potatoes for the people so mashed
potatoes are real easy I’m sure you
could have guessed that if You’ never
done it um but it’s they’re delicious
and because they’re easy everyone should
know how to make them there’s no reason
not to so let’s make mashed
potatoes

okay so basically need four things um
potatoes milk or half and half and uh
butter and salt and pepper but who
counts those and then I like to throw a
little bit of garlic in my potatoes so
the first thing to do is peel these
babies um unless you like potato peels
in your mashed potatoes but let’s do it
fancy style shall we let’s begin all
already
began okay so these are all peeled
basically and I rinsed them off just to
get a little dirt off I’m going to kind
of cut them
into chunks about yay big so that they
cook a little bit faster and just to
kind
of even out the sizing and then I’ve got
a pot of water here that I’m going to
cold water start with them cold so they
cook a little more evenly if you drop
them in the hot water like the outside
will kind of start to crumble apart
before the inside is really soft and
then I’m just going to peel these real
quick and drop them
into and we’ll do all that boil them all
together okay so turn it on ouch put a
lid on it it’ll boil faster and now we
just wait for him to cook and then we’re
like halfway done
yes okay so it’s been I don’t know 20 30
minutes yeah all right awesome this is
done I’m going to try to drain it
without spilling boiling water all over
myself and having to call EMS see if
that
happens okay I did it without thir
degree burns
yay all right so I’ve got here some
about a/4 cup of a half and half and
about 3 tablespoons of butter that I
melted
together and we’ll put some salt in
there and some freshly ground pepper
with an actual Peppermill which I’m not
even sure if I’m using it right because
I an idiot and I don’t ever use one
okay enough self-deprecation let’s masch
some
potatoes oh my God that was loud sorry
Nat and Billy okay taste these
mothers yummy creamy potatoes I’m
totally gonna add some more salt and
pepper but anyways I can do that later
so um thanks for watching there’s mashed
potatoes I’ll write up a thing on my
blog and also about like how to keep
them cuz they’re really best fresh but
um sometimes you have to wait on people
that are running a little bit late rude
anyways um learned a cookbook coming out

You can use milk. Half and half makes it richer.

For my dairy, I like to use cream cheese … also, when time allows, I roast my garlic. Leftover mashed potatoes formed into patties and fried in butter are delicious, but rarely are there any leftovers. 🙂
My friend uses cream cheese, too! It's so rich and creamy.
