I wanted to show off my diy dough proofer. I've been using it for a couple of months and it's worked great for proofing dough during the colder months of the year. The bag is one of those insulated bags used for food delivery, but any type of cooling box / bag would work if your dough fits inside 🙂
Ingredients:
Heating mat thermostat ($20 on amazon)
Reptile heating mat ($10 on amazon)
Insulated bag ($10 on amazon)
You have some heating mats that come with a thermostat, I purchased them separately. I stuck the temperature probe on the 'lid' of the bag, the mat is resting on a pot holder just in case, and the wires can go to the outside through the zip. Works like a charm!

Idk this seems very unnecessary
I just turn my oven on to 350 for a min and then plop my bread into it to proof.
before seeing the community name, i though this was some kind of doordash delivery bag, and i though “wow this guy is so dedicated to his job” 😂
I use an old heating pad to n the lowest setting, a plastic box to put over the bowl/pans, and towels to cover the box to keep the heat in (house is 62F in winter). Splurged on an extra large heating pad and another plastic box (both boxes used to store baking supplies) when I started making 4+ loaves per week.
The only part you’re missing in a little tray of water (it should be wider to promote evaporation. Then you can skip plastic wrap.
I love this solution. Heat mat with thermostat in an insulative bag.
Precise temperature give better proofing reliability.
Would also probably work inside your oven or microwave.
The insulated bag is 👌. I have a heating pad already but never thought to pair it with a bag like this. Definitely getting on this!
