How would you clean this?

What kind of smoker is this? A pit boss? Normally I keep a layer of foil over that diverter plate for easy clean up. In my traeger it comes out of the cooker for easy clean up. I suggest looking up a cleaning YouTube video for your specific model. Normally you’ll need to take that plate out and vacuum the inside of it as well to help prevent fires in the future. I do a good deep clean and very 3-5 cooks depending on what I cooked on it but I’ll replace that foil every 1-2 cooks.

For now, see if you can take that plate out and get to scraping!

Traeger has a no chemical degreaser. Have to vacuum the inside and use degreaser to clean. Works great

Grill some big onions (not the really sweet ones) on it. The acid will help loosen tbe crud. Might add a metal vessel (bowl, pan) full of water to help steam it too. After that, while the crud is still hot and somewhat mushy, use a heat-proof grill brush or scraper.

I’d probably just pee on it after having too many beers 😂

    Brush the grates, remove.
Get a paint scraper, scrape all the residual food stuffs.
    Remove diverter

Got a small cheap shop vac? Order one if you don’t, vacuum the residual stuff up, wood ash, and fire pot.

    Reassemble

I consider this a thorough enough clean. I try to do this every 10-12 hours of combined cook time. Is it frequent enough? Seems to be for me.
