01:00 Recipe
hi guys my name is Fern hailes and you’re joining me on this first YouTube video with recipe creation I have a YouTube channel that’s dedicated to herbalism and mainly ayeda but I’m also branching out now into cooking since it’s one of my passions and very close to my heart so in this video we’re going to be making lemon and almond cookies or lemon and almond biscuits and these biscuits are candida friendly since as you might be a to see and tell I’m six months pregnant and I’m just basically suffering from another bout of candid to overgrowth it’s something I’ve struggled with my whole life and generally I follow a plant-based diet um and really try to watch my candida but right now I’m coming back to probiotics and candida friendly sweets since I also have a big Sweet Tooth um so I want to share this recipe I’ve created with you so in this recipe I’m using one egg but if you’re vegan and want a vegan alternative you can use ground Lin seed with chicke flour so about a tablespoon of that I’m also using the Rind of half a lemon 2 tbsp of coconut oil 100 G of almonds which will I will grind 1 tbsp of chia seeds about a half to 1 teaspoon of bicarbon of soda vanilla Essence and 1 teaspoon of stevia powder which is the sugar replacement that I’m using and then just to add a little bit extra plant protein I will use 1 tsp of coconut flour which is around 30 G and depending on your flavor preference instead of making lemon and almond biscuits for example you can make orange biscuits so instead of the lemon rind you can use grated or ground orange rind and I also sometimes like to add caca nips and basically these biscuits are higher in plant-based protein because during the pregnancy I really learned that in order to curb the nausea and the vomiting that I was experiencing really quite fullon in the first trimester I needed to eat more protein so I actually ended up after being vegetarian and also originally vegan for 10 years including um some fish and chicken back into my diet but I also when I don’t eat a little bit of meat or a little bit of fish I really make sure that I’m getting the protein sources from vegetables and seeds and nuts so generally my recipes nowadays I include things like chia seeds Lin seeds uh sunflower seeds pumpkin seeds things also like hemp protein tea protein some banana protein although I’ve reduced that since I’ve had this candida overgrowth and yeah any real plant-based proteins that you can find and I always try to consume organic and buy locally and seasonally and also zero waste so maintaining zero waste lifestyle that’s buying in bulk or buying as little packaging as I can and as possible and obviously that can’t always work because also as an aurvedic therapist and practitioner and herbalist often I use ingredients that do come from abroad so things like coconut oil which is obviously really really good in terms of caprylic acid as well for candida overgrowth and things like ginger and turmeric which are typical really all around iaic herbs and spices that are used for things like inflammation digestive issues but I always try and mix with what I can find locally what we can Source here in Europe and also in the northern hemisphere since this is the climate that I’m living in and according to aeda it’s always really important to consume as locally as possible to get the highest Prana and highest nutrients so micronutrients and minerals from the food that we’re eating so as you can see in this recipe I’ve already broken one egg into a bowl and I’ve ground the almonds I’m now basically taking the coconut oil and I will melt it on a low heat so that it basically can be mixed in properly and there’s not any coconut oil clumps in the biscuits I’m also using a bit of leftover coconut oil just to rub on my skins it’s really really good in terms of moisturizing your skin and also really good when you’re pregnant especially if you’re suffering from inflammation or any heat or Pitter related imbalances in the body so here you can see the coconut oil I put it on just to warm up and now I’m going to slice the lemon skin and blend it I’m a little bit lazy with this I guess I could also grate it and grind it but um I found that the best way for me and quickest is to basically peel the skin with the knife so you could also do this if you were going to use orange and then just whack it in the blender because I just find this way quicker and easier and more practical I also like to keep my recipes um as simple and as quick as possible because during the day obviously with other things going on working with clients working in the garden growing the herbs I’m trying to get better at making simple recipes that take around 30 minutes maximum to produce so simple sweets and candida Alternatives that you can use as well at home if you really have a bit of a sweet tooth or if you’re suffering and you want to make something quick ah and just to note even if you’re not suffering from candid to overgrowth and you’re not necessarily pregnant this recipe can be used obviously and you can instead of the stevia you can even use things like arrol or xylol or coconut sugar or any sweet Alternatives that you like things like maple syrup or even dape syrup I’d also love to hear from you so feel free to share in the comments below what’s natural sweeteners and sweet flavorings you like to use in your recipes and also feel free to share about any plant-based proteins that you like to use so after melting the coconut oil this is really the most important step of this recipe you can pretty much add all the ingredients together but you really should melt the coconut oil separately as I said to avoid any clumps and to get the great a good consistency and also if you’re using almonds straight blend the AR alms first so now I’m adding the almonds to the coconut oil I also added the stevia already and the powers so the bicarbonate soda and then I’m just mixing it up I cracked an egg in another Bowl but you can also just actually add the egg here now to be honest and then just mix it all together and then as you can see I will add the lemon rind after blending it also if you want to blend the lemon rind obviously it’s very important to blend it separately because it is quite it can be juicy obviously not as juicy as the inside of the lemon but there is some water in the lemon rind and peel so it’s good to blend it on its own separately so I’m adding the lemon rind and I’m using about half a lemon but depending on your preference you can also use more if you like really lemony Tangy biscuits and now I’m adding the egg so I’m just adding everything together and mixing it up and stirring it around then I will add the chia seeds and I actually let the biscuit batter kind of sit just for a few minutes just so that the chia seeds get a chance to soak up the juices and kind of go to that g gel gelatin gelatinous the like gelatine state that they take on so that they’re not too dry in the actual biscuit form and when you’re eating them and then I will add the coconut flour so depending on how much coconut flour you use if you want to bulk them out a bit when cooking with coconut flour it really tends to absorb a lot of moisture so I tend to use a little bit of coconut flour and then at the end I add about 50 MLS to 100 MLS of water last time I made these biscuits I actually added 100 Ms of water you can also use the plant-based milk but I’m not uh drinking plant-based milk that I don’t make myself nowadays because in a lot of plant-based milks there might be if it’s not sugar I always try and B and buy sugar-free but there’s sometimes starches other things in their um basically natural stabilizers to preserve the milk but I’m not taking those things because of the candida overgrowth and also I find in the preserved plant-based milks there tend to be a high amount of sugar I had to stop quickly and get a drink of water because I was really thirsty because obviously during pregnancy it’s recommended to drink up to 10 glasses of water a day I often drink I think that if not more I drink so much water but I’m also still suffering from hyper salv ation I don’t know if anyone else out there any pregnant masam suffer from this or who are watching this video but please feel free to share in the comments below my hypers salivation basically started around the end of the third month beginning of the fourth month so going into the second trimester and it stayed with me until today so let’s see I’m around 6 months pregnant so let’s see how long it will last I really hope it goes obviously with the end of the pregnancy since it’s a little bit of a hustle since you keep having to spit every well for me it’s about every minute and I have to drink so much water although I’m very grateful and I’m happy to drink a lot of water because in general my body just is craving it but you know like Natural Healthy filtered water chlorine fluoride free I just cannot get enough I love it right now and for those of you and Mas watching who struggle with normal water you can also sometimes add a bit of flavor so things like you know a bit of lemon juice squeezed in or Mint or any flavors you like or I know that some people find it easier to sip with a straw so that they just make sure they stay hydrated throughout the day so now I’m just preparing the biscuits to go in the oven so I’m just putting out some baking paper and I’m basically going to just Grease the baking paper with some more coconut oil I’m using coconut oil right now as I said because I’m struggling with this candy to overgrowth so I’m really trying to do a natural kind of anti-candida cleanse and also clear the candy to overgrowth and the yeast from my body so I’m using coconut oil but you can use things like olive oil or almond oil you can or even things like ghee or butter and once again if you have any excess oil any oil in that case on your hands you can just use it on your body since all those oils are really nourishing in iova for the skin and as some of you might know in AA abanga the oil massage on the body is like super important and recommended in ioa to do every day so here now I’m going to form the biscuit batter into biscuits so I’m using my hands but you can also use obviously like a cookie scoop or a just sometimes I use two big tablespoons and I kind of scoop them together and form them and then just put them on the baking paper and then just kind of Squish them down into a biscuit form it depends really if how you’re feeling if you up for getting your hands in the biscuit batter or if you just want to you know be a bit cleaner and use some spoons so here we go you just create the biscuits and so this recipe makes around 12 biscuits obviously if you want to make more biscuits you can just double the ingredients in the recipe we have a little one on the way and when he arrives I definitely will have to make more biscuits because when my partner’s around he often eats up to five in one go so that doesn’t leave much for me and when there’s a little one running around definitely going to need more biscuits Mango’s come to say hello as you can see but I think she’s really only interested in seeing if I have any leftover cake batter on my fingers so previously I preheated the oven I normally put our oven on a little bit higher but basically it would be around 180° C I’m not sure what that is in Fahrenheit sorry for the fahrenheit uh metrics people out there but I’m sure you can have a look online I think it’s 300 and something and now I’m just making some last minute edits for the recipe because every time I make them sometimes I just change something and then they taste even better and then I basically leave the biscuits in for around 12 to 15 minutes depending on if you want them more crunchy and golden or if you want them more soft and dippable in your tea so that’s it for the recipe today please subscribe and like this video if you’d like to stay updated with more creative recipes especially plant-based recipes with high protein plant-based Alternatives and candida friendly and since it’s spring here and it’s elder flower season I’ve been enjoying these biscuits with a homemade elderflower and rose hip infusion also this is to help me boost my immunity and basically deal with the change over from Winter to Spring but also since I’ve had this candida overgrowth come up and flare I’ve been drinking this elderflower INF infusion so please check out my other video on the benefits and uses of elderflower from an IID perspective because maybe you also want that extra immune boost and you could take a little bit of Elder flow in your daily routine and in your diet and in infusion form now so enjoy [Music]
