Except it’s not true at all. One is an annual and the other a perennial. One is photoperiodic the other is not. They both thrive on very different nutrient routines.

I don’t think anything could ever measure up to cannabis cultivation. It attracts people who’ve never had any interest in growing plants into doing it which is fantastic. The problem is, they come in with zero knowledge then eat up any and every little last bit of misinformation on the internet that surrounds cannabis. Without any experience, it becomes gospel and brains become resistant to hearing any other way.
Cal-Mag is the perfect example. That shit is so overused in cannabis cultivation. Go look through microgrowery and find all the plant ailment posts. There are so many that happen about a month into flower and 9 times out of 10 the entire sub spouts using Cal-Mag because of a ‘cal-mag’ deficiency. The deficiency symptoms occur about a month after they switch to ‘flowering’ nutrients that are high in P and K and low in N.
There are plenty of research articles that all come to the same conclusions about NPK ratios for cannabis through flower. Not a single one of them would lead you to believe that ‘flowering’ nutrients are necessary whatsoever. The highest yielding cannabis plants in those experiments are using something akin to a 3-1-2 ratio.
So why is Cal-Mag so popular? It contains nitrogen. They fix their problems by adding cal-mag that provides the nitrogen that plants need throughout flower. It happens without fail.
I mean, to be fair, if it works then it works. There’s no getting through to helping people understand something they don’t want to. If they want to buy 56 bottles of nutrients and spend hours mulling over LED screens with numbers on them, go for it. There is so much bro-science in the cannabis cultivation community. In most the other growing discipline subs, there is a complete absence of the cal-mag comment. It’s almost specific to cannabis cultivation.
