My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word ‘plan’ gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we’re at it.

hello and welcome back to Villa Oliva [Music] so to give you an idea this is the design for the garden the blue lines are the walking paths and the other well it’s not really clear is it the blue lines are walking paths but also this curved path that snakes through the garden is also a walking path this is a tree that’s there and it’s going to be like a flower bed but uh nothing to worry about there so the blue is a walking path uh I have to finish it up but it in the end it’ll something look something like this so here you have your bed and the rest is uh gravel so we can delete these blue sections and then we’re left with these beds um but this will give you quite a nice idea of what we would want to do with it um these blue circles are the fruit trees that we brought so place them there probably also some on the other side of this canal but that’s for later this is a a rough sketch a rough idea of what we want to do we’ll set out a grid uh to see where we can start digging our beds because as you can recall we’ve cleared the back section here uh during the night and um now we’re going to try to continue open up some space there to plant our potatoes and whatnot let’s go there okay we got some markers we marked the pole there we have one there one here one here we’ve got some pointers and obviously we didn’t know that when we started designing and building this lot here but what we’re going to do is take a section of the design that we have and we’re going to try to start building three raised beds these three beds so the beds now are somewhat here and we’re going to start making a part or section of these long beds these three going to do section of it because otherwise we can’t remove all the stuff that we have here to that side so we’re going to leave the top out for now though they will not be raised um we’ll try to get this gravel out so first clean everything then we’re going to get gravel out um and then we’re going to put compost in and then we’re going to put our potatoes and everything and what not in just for now and later on we’re going to come back and um we’re going to build these concrete raised bad walls I guess uh with a nice V Lea logo in it of course and um then we’re going to fill them up so then then we have raised beds but this is a first step and then we can can leave the gravel that is there or for the walking path that’s already there so it saves us time hopefully all right for one day when we have a dog this is for him or her all right finally this section is cleared so just got to remove these branches these Rambles and then it’s time to move some gravel all right section done we got this because it was quite good compost got it off put it in there for they to use gravel time [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] and that is the last of it this is the final wheelbarrow for this pile at least now we have the other one right there that we still need to do but that will be for tomorrow because I’m quite done so uh good night and see you tomorrow [Music] all is [Music] go don’t is me wre so that is it for the gravel for now and now we’re going to Mark where our raised beds will be and we can start digging out the gravel and then removing it and uh continue making the beds for is oh [Music] for [Music] it is crazy that the plastic container is getting normal to take it with you into the garden when you go gardening it’s bit weird but that’s how much plastic we find in the garden when we are out here so this is going to be part of one of the beds this is going to be the walking path which is like 50 cm this one is like a meter so we have beds of a meter wide path of 50 cm and then again a bed of a meter so I’m going to try to dig out this one then another bath and then another bed and hopefully I’ll get it done by the end of today but if I’ve learned anything from experience I’ll probably not make that because it’s quite a lot of work so that’s the plan these two beds and then we can put some compost in and then potatoes and everything for

Then this question: where is the "oliva"?
Still love watching your videos here and the progress you`re making.

  2. Really enjoyed the episode, gardning is hard work but very rewarding. There is a huge difference in taste with homegrown fruit and vegetables . Glad to see your dad doing well.

  3. Sweet Dad is doing again such an amazing job. And you too. i love it watching all the progresses. Have a good time, kim

  4. Is that pile of gravel that you had to move, all dug up from the garden? I do remember you saying you would have a pile, but that much?

  5. I can't believe the rubbish in your garden, it's really hard work to clear that up. You ate so lucky to have your dad help you. It's going to be great once those vegetables start producing.

  6. Hi, You guys are doing great. Do not pay attention to all the negative comments. Do it your wayโ€ฆ.. 27k subscribers is not enough to afford powered machinery. Clear some of the rubbish , get the trailer to the top of the drive, the ground is dryer now. make space to turn the empty trailer by hand at the top. Love your channel. Thank you.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชโ˜˜๏ธ.

  7. loving the mix contents. lovely to see your dad back. you make an awesome duo. hope he's feeling better after to motorcycle accident. when you burn any wood etc, save the pot ash and sprinkle it into your soil, its good for vegetation of any kind. love your design, its been well thought out. the transformation is looking fantastic. did you know get garden sieves to help separate the soi m the gravel, time consuming work, but worth it x the wood from the trees you could strip off the branches and use them as a temprory marker for your beds and paths until you get the posts that you really want. makes use of something thats taking up space until you can get rid of it. sorry im a pest, also have you thought of getting some solar powered outside lights that you can either again use the cut down tree posts or use any other posts to fasten them too. will make life so much easier for you will working in the dark, i would say 4-5 would probably be enough to light it up for you to work in and you can always move them around depending where you are working. can't wait for the next update. thank you for making all of us part fabulous journey renovating the villa and doing the garden which will look stunning if your design is anything to go on. good luck

  12. I've really enjoyed your gardening videos, the garden will be such an important part of the property.

  13. Sam, Dad, the two of you work so well together, Dad be careful with your back. The area is looking good cleaned up, your garden is going to be great. God bless you Sam, Dad God bless your Family. See you on the next video.

  14. It does not appear that you are allowing enough space between your trees. Maybe 10 ft. Between full-grown apple trees. Your potatoes need to be put into about an 8 in. depth trench, at about a foot apart. Mice, voles, and rats will get to them when shallow.
