Haven't smoked since July. Cleaned the smoker yesterday and did a dry run at 350 for an hour and back down to 160 for another hour. Dry run went great. Popped in some briskets this morning once up to temp and was running smoothe for the first hour then started barreling smoke. Did a shutdown and ran the feed a few times. Seems like pellets are lighting up in auger tube? Any recommendations are truly appreciated!

Fire in the tube, clear out pellets, clean the grill really well, make sure any vents or chimneys aren’t clogged, it’s usually due to a lack of air flow being released from the smoker

Do you have a link for what you have on the doors there? I have the same smoker and can use something like this.

  3. Do you regularly clean the ash out of your fire pot? If not, it creates a condition where fire would rather go back through auger than stay in the fire pot

  4. I’m considering the same smoker. I like my vertical pit boss and was checking this one out. What are your thoughts on it? The reviews seem mixed

  5. You like the smoker? I’m considering it but not sure cause mixed reviews and more expensive than the critical pit boss.

Fellow XXL owner here. Only time I’ve had a burn back issue like that is when going from 350 down to 225 or lower
