Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a used pellet grill and could really use some advice from the community here. I found a model that's 1 year old and in good condition. The same model sells new for $450.

Considering that it's a cooking device and I'll need to handle cleaning, maintenance, and transportation, plus it won't come with a manufacturer's warranty, what do you all think would be a fair price to offer? Is this a good model to start off with?

What have been your experiences buying used pellet grills? Any tips on what to look out for or avoid?

Thanks in advance for your help!

A lot of people adore Pit Boss grills here, I’m not one of them.

First thing I’d want to know is why they’re selling, are they upgrading or too many issues? If the latter they probably won’t say. If you’re the overly cautious type see if they’ll let you turn it on and check if can maintain temp, 250 or so, for 10 minutes.

If checks out and you’re happy, would say 300 or so is fair, give or take 50.

Would look for chipped, peeling, or blistered paint, if find any adjust price accordingly as it’s a rust bucket waiting to happen.

I just gave away my 850 but not because of any issues, I had it for 4 years and other than maintenance and needing to clear the auger 3 times during that time I had no issues. I did replace the sear plate once. Never covered just left outside. Probably could’ve gotten $100 for it but bought a new much larger pit Boss vertical while wife was out of town so needed to get the old one out of here. Neighbor took it I made two teenagers push it over to their house two blocks over.

I just bought this exact grill. It is going to be delivered this Saturday. People seem to either love or despise Pit Boss. But that’s the internet for you. Different camps of people for every brand out there.

I figured for $450 delivered and assembled, it was a fairly low monetary risk in the world of pellet grills.
