Dutch Baby
RECIPE COURTESY OF REE DRUMMOND
Level: Easy
Total: 55 min
Active: 15 min
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

3 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon plus 1/4 cup maple syrup
6 tablespoons salted butter
1 cup mixed berries
1/4 cup blueberry syrup
Canned whipped cream, for serving

Directions

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Place a large (about 12-inch) cast-iron skillet in the oven so that it gets very hot, 15 to 20 minutes.

Mix the eggs and milk in a blender and blend until smooth, about 30 seconds. Add the flour, vanilla and 1 tablespoon maple syrup, then blend again until smooth, about another 30 seconds.

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and melt 4 tablespoons butter in the skillet. Quickly pour in the batter and return the skillet to the oven. Bake until golden brown and risen, about 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and cut into wedges immediately, as it will start to deflate. Top with the remaining 2 tablespoons butter, the berries, blueberry syrup, remaining 1/4 cup maple syrup and the whipped cream.

How to Make a Dutch Baby | The Pioneer Woman | Food Network

so i am going to make a dutch baby also known as a dutch pancake i’m telling you guys this thing is so much fun it’s a little risky to make it on camera because it’s one of those things where you’re not exactly sure it’s going to turn out perfectly but we will hope for the best won’t we guys yeah okay i’m starting out by adding three eggs to the blender and i’m gonna add three quarters of a cup of whole milk and then i’m gonna blend this this is such an easy recipe just blend it real quick okay and now to the blender i’m going to add three quarters of a cup of flour this is very simple tablespoon of maple syrup give or take and then just half a teaspoon of vanilla this is a really fun thing to make when you have your kids home okay now i’m going to blend this until it’s smooth it’s smooth okay now this is the really fun part um so here’s what we did actually my kids did this before we got started turned the oven on to 425 and then they actually stuck an iron skillet in the oven to get it super hot i mean this thing is hot hot hot you definitely want to have heat proof mitts so now oh that’s hot it’s like a sauna leaning over that so i’m gonna add some butter and look alex as you can see that skillet is as if it’s been on the stove top so you want the hot skillet to melt that butter and just kind of swirl it around the pan you really need to use a cast iron skillet for this because nothing can get as hot as this so watch this you’re going to want to come in here i’m going to shut the oven alex kind of a heat wave okay so then you just pour the batter right into the pan and look at those edges how it’s kind of bubbling and then here is the secret get your mitts back on and stick it into the oven and you need to wait 25 minutes and be ready when that time is up because you have to see it right when it comes out okay night night see you soon see you back here in 25 minutes so let’s take a look oh it’s a little puppy in certain areas look at this go ahead and go around paigey i’m actually going to slide my my pot holder under there because that is about as hot as a pan can get look at this paint oh you’ve got these little soft areas it looks like colorado it does look like the rocky mountains right there so this is how you serve it up it’s very fun to serve you basically just reach in there and look poop deflated and it’s just like a thin eggy pancake and the only difficult thing about it is which one of your kids are you going to serve first so then you add a little butter come in here and look paige a little bit of maple syrup so pretty and i’ve got some wild blueberry syrup which i think is delightful on a dutch baby look at that oh how gorgeous and then a little bit of lemon zest i think what do you think paige some fruit some fruit got some raspberries and some blueberries some blackberries [Music] how about some more blueberry syrup yum i almost dropped it off the plate have you ever had a dutch baby i promise you you will be happy with this serve it to your guests serve it to yourself serve it to your kids serve it to your cousins serve it to your nephew serve it to your daughter get a little raspberry in there go whip cream not so good you

  1. Personally, I would add the lemon zest into the batter before baking, but this turned out great this rainy Saturday morning.

  2. Ree, I know you're the Queen of Everything Kitchen, but take your oven mitt and keep it on the handle of that pan……someone invariably will grab for that handle…..I've done it…..Love ya, Ree! Nice Dutch Baby, Baby ♡♡♡

  3. My sister says it’s Justin Bieber’s favorite food, cuz it’s baby bayby baby ohhhhh, like baby….🤣

  4. The filming has gotten so much better! Y'all are doing a great job. Food look delish, and provides such good entertainment during the quarentine. Thanks. Stay healthy and safe!

  5. I just made it – Looks like I've been slaving over the stove all morning, but it is sooooo easy. Berries and some Meyer lemon whipped cream. 😋 Thanks

  6. I AM DUTCH AND DO NOT APPROVE THIS.. AT ALL… haha no seriously, this dutch baby does not exist in my country, we never heard of it, and we are not interested in it. If you want to see how you should make sorta this but MUCH better and original Dutch (so waayy thinner, easier, faster and with crispy edges) you should search for 'Hoe maak ik pannenoeken''

  7. OMG at 0:45 she does the same thing I do every time I cook – squint and try to figure out what size the metal measuring cup is. They seem to all have horrible design for readability. Nice in terms of lasting a long time. But you have to get the light just right to figure out the size.

  8. Don't get me wrong I love Ree but it was driving me crazy how she kept the oven door open while she carried on this long conversation…I kept yelling shut the oven door!! Plus she acted like she had never cooked in cast iron…when she said they actually stuck cast iron in the oven…..I've made tons of loaves of bread in my cast iron dutch oven…..maybe she has only used it over an outside fire but I would find that hard to believe…..
