OP here: This is an oxheart heirloom variety in Zone 5, I am growing them in raised beds of regular soil amended with compost. I noticed this dark spot on one of the earliest fruits to set, but it’s mid-way between where the sepal and the blossom end is.
I’ve previously only grown cherry varieties before and have never seen BER… does this look like BER?
Should I remove this fruit? It was the first plant to germinate, flower, and set fruit so I’ve been looking forward to saving the earliest fruit for seed.

I believe BER = Blossom End Rot. Usually it is caused by calcium deficiency but Google for more information – not always a straightforward causal relationship. Good luck! I bet your tomatoes will be perfect in a few weeks:)
