Old Fashion Cornbread Dressing and Chicken Gravy

Marie is showing how we make her old fashioned cornbread dressing and chicken gravy. Marie has been making dressing like this for fifty years. She learned how to make great dressing from her grandmother. The gravy is a shortcut for making a great chicken gravy without a lot of work. We hope that you enjoy this video.

[Music] jingle bells ringing in my ear Jingle Bell a sound that’s oh so dear Frosty the Snowman is All Around Town watch out the reindeers are falling down with stay up waiting for set tonight he climbs down the chimney at the speed of light while we’re dancing around the Christmas tree hugging and kissing just you and me carers are singing outside our door lovely songs we all heard before as they walk from house to house to wish us all a merry christm hi everyone I’m Arie from Southern country living and today I’m making my cornbread dressing recipe uh yesterday I cooked a a pan of cornbread and also I cook my biscuits and so I like to do it a day ahead so that they dry out um before I make my dressing that’s the way I like to do it and I’ve always done it that way and it works great for me and uh also I’m cooking my chicken over here in this pot it’s chicken breast and um it is the kind that got the bone on it I get that kind for better flavor and so uh I usually cook it for about 15 minutes then I let it cool and then I break it up and um I add it to my dressing and so uh I’ve got some prep work to do today I’ve got to chop up my celery and my onions and um so let me get started on that and I’ll be back all right my uh chicken I’ve already got it deboned and it’s cooled and this right here is my chicken broth and um I put my celery and onion in it to let it get all softened up and so now I’m going to crumble up my cornbread and my biscuits so and uh this recipe will be in the description below um our family’s been making this dressing for years like this this is the way we like to make it I know a lot of people put different things in their dressing but we really don’t like cranberries and sausage and all that in ours but it’s however everybody’s different and everybody’s got their own way that they like [Music] theirs [Music] [Music] and when I make my dressing I usually put less biscuits in it than I do cornbread and the amounts of the cornbread and the biscuit will be in the recipe in the description below and um I think I’m just going to use about four of these today these were the best tasting biscuits when I made these biscuits I um also made me a sausage biscuit that morning and it was really good the reason I don’t put as much biscuit in it it’s it doesn’t I don’t like the texture in it if there’s more biscuits in it than cornbread I believe that might be enough biscuits right there let me wash my hands and I’ll be back okay so now I’m going to be adding in my sage we don’t like a whole lot of sage either we like some people put a lot of sage but we don’t like a whole lot okay now let me stir all this up think I have that stirred up good enough so now I’m going to add in my onion and chicken broth last year I [Music] about come around just like thatone is here to Cate one day we have our ups and downs but when there’s love there’s always a way and oh this time of year we come together to CBR yes every time the snow is falling down and it is cold outside We Gather on the fireplace and no one cares about yesterday my favorite holiday it means so much more than words can say and I CL now then I’m going to put two eggs well I think I’m G to put this in there then I’m going put my eggs that was your can of cream of chicken yes okay okay now then I’m going to put my two eggs in I’m going to get me a fork and beat those up just a little bit I hope everybody is having a good day today it’s kind of overcast here today I’m looking forward to this dressing okay so um now I’m going to be adding in my chicken certainly when it’s pretty in here and it’s SM okay I’m going to wash my hands one more time okay I’ve got my dressing all mixed up good now and so I’m going to pour it into my um pan a little bit okay okay I just got my dressing poured into my pan and so I’m going to be cooking it for about 45 to 50 minutes at 350° and while this is cooking I’m going to making my gravy my cornbread dressing is cooking and so now I’m going to be making my gravy so I’m going to be adding um two cans of cream of chicken okay now then I’m going to be adding a cup of water to this we really do like this gravy it’s like I said it’s really fast and easy and we like it as good as all the other gravies that people make that take a long time okay so now I’m going to put my salt and black pepper in and this uh recipe will be in the description below also and then I’m going to add my eggs in chicken so now I’m going to add my parsley and I’m going to let this cook um I’m going let this come to a boil and then I’m going to cook it for about 5 minutes the gravy came to a boil now and it’s been cooking for about 5 minutes and my uh cornbury dressing just likes a few more minutes being done and so I’m going to be ready to serve it up in just a few minutes okay my dressing just came out of the oven and I I know it’s two weeks to think giving but I wanted to share y’all my fast and easy dressing recipe and uh it’s really good and one of the things that makes this really fast and easy recipe is I cook my bread a day ahead of time and I don’t have to do it on the day that I make my dressing and I’ll let my bread dry out and so um let me serice up some of this dressing and I know it’s going to be good okay and now let me put my fast and easy uh chicken gravy on it and this stressing it’s very moist and then I’m going to do the taste test this really looks good M that’s delicious but my dressing always is okay let me take another side of this with some cranberry sauce that’s the way I like to eat it I hope y’all enjoyed my um oldfashioned cornbread dressing and so do what you love and love what you do and y’all have a great day [Music] bye without free yeah isn’t that amazing in Christmas times we’ll be ching and having a good good time does matter if falling or the winds the rain is it will always be Christmas in my heart but this year I want to hang with mys and family making angels in the sand doesn’t matter itras in heart

  1. When I was growing up, I always tried to help my mother cook. I always helped make the dressing. Alot of people do not really do not know how to make it. We used to have dressing all year round, not just at Thanksgiving. I love chicken breasts with the bone, they do have more flavor. Some grocery stores do not even sell them but the boneless. My mother would cook a larger whole chicken she called a hen. LOL She always put cornbread, day old bread toasted, pepperidge farm seasoning a few crackers, egg, sage, chicken broth and just a pinch of baking powder, why she did that I do not know. LOL My aunt used to say it made it fluffy. LOL I try to cook like my mother did and I do not stir it, I toss it. I put pats of butter on top, and it is really good frozen too. I learned so much from my mother, and at the holidays, I try to honor her memory and fix desserts like she used to make. I do not buy fresh coconuts anymore and grate them by hand, I use the frozen coconut. It is just as good. Holidays are especially hard for me because I miss my mother so much. I am going to try your recipe for dressing, it sounds so good. It is funny, I do not have a recipe, a little this and a little of that. I never thought I would be able to cook kinda like her. LOL I enjoy your videos so much. Marie and Calvin, yall are so special to me.

  2. Marie I make my dressing just exactly like you make yours, it really looks good. But I haven’t make any for a few years. Most everyone uses the store box stuff now, but I still like the old fashion way. God bless, have a good Thanksgiving, I send my love and prayers.

  3. Looks so delicious! I live in the North and we call it stuffing, but I would love your old fashioned cornbread dressing! You are an amazing cook!

  5. Dressing.. Mmm mmm. I love cream of chicken soup. It makes yummy gravy and a base for pot pie. You’re making me hungry 😋🦃. I’m starting my baking tomorrow.
Have a Blessed Evening and Thanksgiving if I don’t get back. But you know I will 😬🌻

  6. I used to make my own cornbread too and make cornbread like Momma did. I now buy the Pepperidge Farms cornbread stuffing mix. Looks good Marie.

  7. Wonderful cornbread and chicken dressing!!! I already have my cornbread and biscuits made for this dressing. This will be my third time making this recipe. Thanks for sharing. God bless you both and take care. Mrs. Lonnie

  8. I agree, I don't like my dressing fussed up with a lot of odd things. I stick with tried and true! I live that way too! Best Regards, Deb😊

  9. That looked real good Marie as always. I will have to wait until Thanksgiving to eat some dressing but that will be alright. Your dressing looks moist and not dried out. That is the way we eat ours. Sometime people have their dressing a little to dry Lol! happy Thanksgiving y'all and God Bless! Justin

  10. My mouth is watering! This looks so comforting and yummy. My mom makes her potato stuffing every year and it’s delicious – but I love cornbread dressing and will probably make some next week to go with our Thanksgiving leftovers. 😊 Thanks for a great recipe!

  19. Hi Marie. your dressing looks really good. Why do you put eggs in your gravy? Marie i have the same issues that you do .I started passing out.I have been in the hospital 2 or 3 times.I get to dehydrated . I can't drink a lot. I was looking at your hands as you wear cooking. You fingers swell just like mine. I can't wear my rings anymore i miss them.

  20. Marie, the only difference in my recipe and yours is I add about 1 cup of the unbaked dressing to the gravy mixture. Everyone thinks it’s giblet gravy.
Great recipe and demonstration. I enjoy your channel. ❤

  21. Greetings, Cal and Marie❤. I wanted to tell Marie that I made a dinner printed on back of a Campbells turkey gravy can using center-cut pork chops breaded in Pepperidge Farm herb dressing covered in the gravy–talk about easy and delicious. I'm not finished. I also made Marie's green beans as a side which I wrote down at one time for later use, using chicken broth, bacon, and 2 T. brown sugar, etc, and my friend told me it was really good. She enjoyed how it tasted, and so did I. That will be my go-to recipe from now on for side dish green beans. Cooking down those beans until the broth evaporates really makes a difference compared to just heating them up for five minutes till warm.

  22. I saved this video to watch later and it's April and I'm just watching it on solar eclipse day. Lol I think I'll try to make this pretty soon

  23. Wowwwwwww!!! I can’t wait to make a cake like this!!!
I’ve always adored any flavor of “poke cakes”. Never made one correctly. Now I understand where I was making a mistake. Heating the preserves is key to being able to distribute the fruit evenly.
Can’t wait! Thank you for sharing your recipe.
You two are very kind and sweet to each other. I appreciate watching the two of you being so kind to each other. True love.
Lots of aloha continue to be sent to you and yours.
