[Music] thank you foreign foreign [Music] hi welcome to my kitchen today I’m going to be making a coleslaw there’s many different recipes now this one here is Loretta Lynn’s recipe and um it’s really a good recipe let me start out with are cabbage and you use 14 ounces there and about I have a lot of people right now would be using the Cabbage from their Garden just slide you know dice it up slice it up whatever you want um to make it approximately what you think is the amount that you need and then you’ll take a cup and a half of milk and a cup of sugar it’s a lot different from my other recipe that I use um but it’s really really good and then you’ll want cup and a fourth of milk and then you’ll want a third of a cup I’m just going to read it off here because I can’t remember it a fourth of a cup of buttermilk then you’re going to want to add in a half a cup of mayonnaise I was saying earlier telling my son or to Lynn and I had a few things in common she was a Coal Miner’s Daughter and so is my so was I my dad was a coal miner and um we look down in Kentucky also matter of fact that’s where I was born and you want to add a half a cup of mayonnaise he said I was the only one out of the four children that Mother and Daddy had that was born in Kentucky the rest of them are all born up north had a couple other things in common of course we’re both born down south those love music she loved to sing and I love to listen to it because God knows I couldn’t sing but she’s a wonderful singer and then you’ll take um your pepper salt and onion salt and add to it bring that all together I know when my daddy was sick we took him down to Kentucky he wanted to go visiting places that he had been to before and just reminiscing we went down to the coal mines where he had worked at um I make a mess of this Dijon mustard Shake I didn’t Shake It Up before I opened it and you only want just uh I think it’s a teaspoon out of it I think that’s about enough and we went down and went past where I was born at went past the uh Schoolhouse where um he had I guess he worked as a janitor for a little bit there or something and then we went up to her grandma and grandpa my great-grandparents lived that was up on the hill and he said he would love to have the old cart that they used to use when they’d go back in the mines to get the coal out on and uh my uncle was with us and he said well me and Vera go back up there and get that for you daddy says well I know it’s in the mine and I’m like if daddy wants it I’ll go get it so we got out and went up there went up in the up the hill and back up in there up way up the hill to the mouth of the mine and I’ve never seen back in the mine or anything before and all at once my dad started screaming Vera stop so I did and I’m like what and he says don’t go in there and you know it’s just just about to go in and he says come back and I’m like oh it’s right here he says come back I’m like okay so we came back we came out and I says what’s the problem daddy and he said it’s no problem he says but I just remembered he says that place is probably infested with snakes and I’m like you got to be kidding and he said I don’t know why on Earth I would have sent you up there because I’m terrified to death of snakes but for Daddy I would have done it so I was glad he stopped me because I’d have passed out right now [Music] they need some lemon juice I need a teaspoon and a half of lemon juice foreign they’re doing it if you’re like me if your daddy asked you to do something you’re gonna go do it for him bring all that together real good milk buttermilk and mayonnaise and Dijon mustard vinegar lemon salt and pepper and it’s about all it takes it’s a lot different from my other recipes but telling you it’s really really good so and then all you have to do is put it on your cabbage that cabbage smells so good and I have been terrible about eating it because I love fresh cabbage I love to just take it and just eat and eat and eat of it and then you just pour it on you’re supposed to let it sit about an hour before you serve it foreign to the bottom the bowl and I’m I would think well I know I do I’ll take it and set it in the fridge and every once in a while I’ll stir it up a little bit but I’m telling you oh that smells so good hitting that fresh cabbage I don’t know if anybody else does it but when you cut your cabbage up you’ve always got that Center core piece and that is the best piece of cabbage I love to take that and just sit down and eat that after I get the Cabbage all cut up not share it with anybody I love that piece and I usually get it because I’m the one cutting it up I don’t share it so no one knows I’m eating it um oh that smells good now I probably could add a little bit more cabbage in that I’ll wait and see how much it absorbs it’s a little bit wet and if I want to add more I will so you’ll just have to play with that yourself and see what you think if you need to add more and if you do just stick a little bit more in it because probably could and you’ll have to put that in the fridge and let it set for about an hour before you eat it so it absorbs all those good flavors that John mustard and that buttermilk ain’t nothing better than buttermilk um that’s wonderful I know I think glory to Lynn for sharing this recipe with us and I think you’ll be thinking her too because it’s a wonderful wonderful recipe and it’s different and I like different recipes once in a while so we’ll just say thank you to Loretta Lynn for this and let her keep singing Beautiful Beautiful music to us and we love it and I really appreciate all the recipes that we get from her anyway go pick a cabbage out of the garden and make this tonight you’ll love it and I thank you bunches for tuning in [Music]

OMG, I just heard Loretta passed away today. How sad. She was an amazing lady and singer. It's crazy that you posted this recipe of hers last night….RIP Miss Loretta, you are now home with your Doo…..
I love this this recipe, I got it from a Tv show that she made it on yrs ago, I do add some shredded carrot into this.
That tastes delicious, thanks for your recipe 🌸
I have a similar recipe without the milk. My Mother used to always add celery seeds and I hated celery seeds back then. Now I'm ok with them. But, back then I would scream out, "Mom, why'd you put bugs in it!" I'm originally from the mountains of East Tennessee.
Your Mom is a doll. A living doll. Thank you for filming your Mom fixing Loretta Lynn's recipe. I recall Loretta Lynn's Crisco commercials and recipes with fondness. Maybe Crisco will reprint her cookbook? (I hope so!)
My mother in law and father in law were both from Auxier,Kentucky. A little coal mining camp. As you talked i thought about your parents and coal mining i thought of them. But knowing where they are i wouldn't wish them back for anything. 😊 We girls used to eat the core of the cabbage with salt. It sure is good. I can't keep my fingers out of the cabbage either. 😊 You have a wonderful day. ❤️
