Feeling hungry? Yesss! So if you want to eat something on the go I will show you the best street food in Athens. Follow me! One of the most famous street foods in Athens is the Koulouri which is actually rings of bread sprinkled with sesame seeds. You will find stands selling Koulouri all over Athens. Apart from the plain one, you can taste a variety of flavors like cheese and olives. This traditional bakery serving Greek pies has operated since 1910 at the same place near Syntagma Square It sells a variety of Greek pies. 120 different ones, from regions around Greece. It is famous for the cheese pie called Kourou. This is what I’m trying right now and it’s very very good. You have to come and try it [Music] yourself! Another great place to try traditional pies in Athens is Mam. This family shop is in business for around 50 years and it serves the most delicious pies. We had an amazing spinach pie with cheese. It is something you should try as well [Music] Next, we have Lukoumades which are little yeast-risen puffs that are deep fried until golden brown and then drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. You can find them at Krinos a traditional shop that serves loukoumades since 1923 [Music] Another great choice for street food is Falafellas. It is a shop selling Falafel near Monastiraki Square. Here you will find falafel made from chickpeas in two sizes, pocket and giant. They come with tomato, lettuce, cucumber aubergine, tomato sauce, and yogurt sauce. They are delicious [Music] Another great option that serves up a taste of the Middle East is Feyrouz and it’s actually one of my favorite places in Athens. The menu of savory street food is filled with flavorsome options such as lachmatzoun and peinirli. They also have a shop that serves homemade Greek and Turkish desserts [Music] While walking down the streets of Athens you will notice some street vendors that grill corn on the comp. It is a very popular snack, especially during the summer months. In winter they usually roast chestnuts over the grill which is another healthy snack you can have. [Music] [Music] A fantastic place to have a sandwich is a micro bakery called Black Pastrami. Their sandwiches are served on high-quality bread that they make. Here you can also find good coffee and sweet options like cookies and banana bread. Go early as everything sells fast. [Music] If you love fish and seafood you should go to Zisis Here they offer fresh seafood on a convenient cone. The seafood is fried with flour and is extremely crispy. popular choices include fried squid, shrimp, and sardines. Souvlaki is probably one of the most popular Street Foods in Greece. One of my favorite places to try it is Lefteris o Politis. They have operated since the 1950s and their souvlaki is made with recipes from the founder’s origins in Constantinople. You can find it in two locations in central Athens. Finally, we have bougatsa which comes from northern Greece and is a type of pie made with special bougatsa fillo and can have several different fillings both savory and sweet. Today we’re trying traditional bougatsa made with semolina custard cream filling served chopped up and doused with cinnamon and powdered sugar [Music] Thanks for watching you can find all the addresses of the places I have visited in the comments below!
