Let me tell you guys something…tuna sandwiches don’t need much. It’s already so flavorful..delectable, incredibly fulfilling why would you want to hide the flavor? No baby…bring that to life my fellow sandwich artists. Oh man. I will always love the simplicity of a tuna fish sandwich.
Little backstory; I’m from New York where we take our delis and sandwiches very seriously. I am no exception to this rule.
Man oh man, I wish I could go back to the first taste.. 👅
Woke up drunk and hungover, spent the majority of the morning-early afternoon throwing up and not keeping anything down 🤢 but all I could think about looking forward to was what I wanted to eat after this nightmare was over…bingo. A fat, juicy tuna salad sandwich onna hero…lettuce, tomato..lite banana peppers, little bit of salt and pepper..dash of EVOO if you are feeling frisky…that’s it. That’s the good stuff right there. I dreamt of my sandwich so fat that it became a Dr. Nowzaradan patient. Oh man I have never prayed so harder in my life for God to take the hungover nauseous feeling away because I just wanted to eat!!
And just like that on the Lord’s day, He granted two of my prayers; 1) for me to stop fcking throwing up 2) this tuna sandwich.
Man oh man..once I got out the shower I set off on my quest. First the smoke shop then the deli..eat..pop an edible, chill out, feel nice…this is life.
I could already taste the feeling of the sandwich combusting my taste buds. The scooping with the chips first..the Coke Zero with extra ice in my insulated cup…I might as well have taken that tuna sandwich to court for child support. 😜
Having already my mind set on where I’d get my sandwich from, I walked into the deli with my head held high..like I was a brother in a club full of bountiful beauties.
Then, the most unthinkable moment came..so Unthinkable that Alicia Keys herself was not ready..they were out of tuna salad for the day. Was it not meant to be?!
No, I will not take no for an answer. Thank goodness there’s 3 delis on the same block. It always works out.
I walked into the next deli, and walked out with a smile on my face like you thought I just got some.
God bless that woman who made my sandwich.
There’s a certain technique..standard that has to be followed. Get the extra tuna. You want it to overflow on the sides so you can scoop it up with chips first…then you scoop a little bit out of the top, cause if you go straight for that bite you risk tuna falling out and if tuna falls out..make sure you can scoop it up with chips after.
Don’t be afraid to get a little messy with it. 😉
This is everything I deserve in a sandwich.

That’s a good lookin tuna hoagie (tuna salad isn’t the most photogenic). Looks like a nice chewy roll, too.
That was a short novel. Did they put relish in it? I do like a relish or bread and butter pickles on top. Also, I recommend trying it this way next time. Open that thing up and put the tuna salad in the roll, top it with some SWISS CHEESE, and toast it. Pull it out, then top it with lettuce, tomato, peperoncini, olive oil, and vinegar. Bomb!
It just Tuna’d me in to the idea of having a Tuna Salad sandwich for lunch.
