I came across a free XL BGE on marketplace in my area and I was lucky enough to snag it!

If anyone has ideas on how old this is I would love to hear.

It needed new bands as the original ones were beat up. They had a very narrow handle and no springs at all. The interior was covered in mold as I don’t think it was cleaned after the last use about a year ago.

After the putting on the new bands with springs, thermometer, gasket, and reggulator, she’s ready to cook!

The metal supports for the grill grate are broken but I can’t seem to find a replacement part for those.

What “metal supports?” On my BGE the grill grate rests on the upper internal ring.

Not an SME, but I would guess the metal supports for the grill are aftermarket.

I have no clue how old it is. But what a great find.

From my research the early XL’s came with metal supports for the grill grate as my firebox doesn’t actually have the “built in” supports that protrude from the firebox itself.

I don’t know when the XL was released but I’ve seen some info suggesting this is around 2005.

I would say by your description of the handle that it’s oldish, I don’t know exactly when they changed the handles, but mine is roughly 7/8 years old and it has the wider style handle, so older than that. That being said you have a newer style fire ring than mine, mine has 3 slots that the…conveggtor(platesetter/smoking stone) sits in. It’s probably had those upgraded since they do tend to crack if they get really hot. 90% of what I use mine for is low and slow, so it’s lived most of it’s life below 300F. You sir probably have the deal of the year if all you’re into that thing is some new bands, a reggulator, thermometer, and a gasket.
