I’m in Korea right now and I was too embarrassed to ask what to do with the raw chili pepper and garlic that came alongside the soup. Similar to this picture.

I’m assuming I add to the soup to make it spicy or garlicky but why not do that in cooking? Eating it raw sounds like it would be too strong.

Dip it in the ssamjang/dwejang (brown sauce to the right) and eat as is

Also add the salted baby shrimp in the soup to taste.

  2. My guess is dip it in the ssamjang and eat it raw.

You can dip it in the samjang and eat it just as is. Is there vinegar at the table? If so, you can drizzle it on top of the raw garlic and onion. We love raw vegetables with samjang/gochujang. 😅

Actually this was a bad representative picture. The table had no samjang

Us Koreans are savage when it comes to eating garlic and peppers so we just eat that stuff with everything LOL.

If you’re at a table with a grill you could put them on there for a couple minutes!
