Haven’t opened smoker in months. Bought a new house but didn’t have electricity outside. Grew a lot of mold. What’s the best way to clean this off?

    We Need Your Help!

We’ve noticed that recent changes in Reddit’s algorithms have made it harder for original content (OC) communities like ours to get the visibility we used to enjoy. This shift means that posts and comments aren’t getting the attention they deserve.

  2. Turn it as high as it’ll go and let it rip for an hour or two

Pasted below is my cleaning process that I save for posts like this. Just make sure you hit it with some HIGH heat for a while before starting the process as a few others have suggested.

Pull your grill grates. If they’re dirty toss them in a big Rubbermaid tote with dish soap and water. Let them soak for a while. Scrub them clean with a rough sponge and absolutely not a wire brush as it will damage the porcelain coating. Take out your deflector shield and sliding sear plate. Hit them with a bbq brush with a metal scraper and wire bristles. Do not use water on your sear plate as it will quickly cause it to rust.

Next take a shop vac and vacuum the firepot and the bottom of the pit. After you have cleaned out all of the ash, coat all surfaces of your deflector shield, sear plate and grill grates in a light layer of cooking oil and put them back in your pit. Then crank your grill up to 375° or so for a burn off. The coating of oil will keep your grill seasoned and make it much easier to clean.

Cleaning a pellet grill is a pain in the ass, but definitely worth it to protect the grill and produce great food.

Hand wash to get the big chunks, crank it up as high as it’ll go and run it for a couple hours.

I would scrub it before you burn it.

Super hot heat 500° + for at least an hour.

  7. I use a Rubbermaid, dump in about 1/2 gallon of white vinegar, a cup of baking soda, some Dawn, and add water. Soak your grates in that and they’ll look like new
