hey everyone welcome to Homestead corner I’m Jenny and today we are going to whip up our own Italian seasoning dress and so we can Chuck these packets save money and eat [Music] better we all know there are questionable ingredients in all of the stuff that we buy at the store I mean they can call it whatever they want and the reality is is not all of it is that great for us and we also need to be looking at our budgets constantly because this economy things are so tight so whenever I can make something for my family that’s better ingredients and also save us money I’m all about that so today we’re going to be whipping up an ital the dry Italian seasoning dressing mix so you can make your own Italian dressing or we use it a lot just throw it in dishes uh the dry mix to whip up different dishes and just add that Italian dressing flavor so we really like it in a bunch of different dishes today we’re just going to grab a few things from the spice cabinet whip this up so let’s go ahead and get started making your own seasoning mixes could not be simpler you’re just mixing up different seasonings from your spice cabinet that you already have and the single ingredients are a lot cheaper than any of the spice Blends when you buy them so making your own only makes sense so today we’re just going to make up a simple Italian dressing mix and I will show you how we make dressing with it as well and or you can use it dry which is how we use it most of the time because we really like it dry but you can make up that dressing if you want to marinate meat in it or if you want to just use it on your salad so we’re going to start with 1 tblspoon of onion powder put that right in there and then we’re going to add 1 tbspoon of garlic powder cuz you know onions and garlic definitely go in everything does in my house anyway got to have we’re going to do a tablespoon of Basil CU we got to get all those good flavors in there and then we’re going to do 1 tblspoon of sugar you can omit the sugar but the seasoning packets that you buy at the store definitely have it in there that little bit of sweetness so we’re just going to do 1 tblspoon of sugar then we’re going to do 1 tbspoon of salt this is a pretty salty blend but it’s good and I don’t add salt when I use this in in my cooking because I know there’s plenty in there and then we’re going to put 2 tablespoons of oregano in here because we love that oregano flavor and that really gives it that kick that Italian flavor so 2 tbspoon of oregano then we’re going to take and get our ground black pepper and we’re going to do one teaspoon we’re down to teaspoons now so one teaspoon of the black pepper one teaspoon of thyme oh I can’t wait till our time is dried we’re running out and we’re also going to add one teaspoon of parsley to this then we’re going to add a/4 teaspoon of celery seed the original recipe that I found um for this called for celery salt but it’s got tons of salt in there so just a/4 teaspoon of the celery seed and if all you have is celery salt I would just cut the other salt down a little bit and then this is definitely optional but we like to give it a little kick with some red pepper flakes you can skip that if you don’t like it but we oh I don’t know not too much just a little bit give it a little kick in there and that is it for your Italian dressing mix it looks so beautiful in the jar everything all layered in and then we’re just going to give this a good shake you can put this in your little herb grinder or coffee mill or whatever run it through the blender if you want but this is really good just the way it is everything’s pretty well ground in here anyway so it makes a nice mix and then you just use two tablespoons and it equals the same amount as one of the packets let’s make some dressing with this so making your dressing it’s just as easy as putting the spice blend together it really is simple so we’re just going to take two tablespoons um of our mixture and put it right in whatever kind of jug you have if you have a fancy dressing corff you can make it right in there but I’m not that fancy I just use a cup or a mason jar or whatever is Handy honestly and then we’re going to add 2 tbspoon of just fresh water and 23 thir of a cup of olive oil and we’re just going to put that right in there and then we’re also going to add a/4 cup of some red wine vinegar but you can really use any vinegar you want for this so if you prefer rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar you can do it up whatever way you want but we just need about 1/4 cup of vinegar for this and we’re going to pour this right in in there and that is it we’re going to put a nice tight fitting lid on here that won’t leak and shaky shaky we have got delicious Italian dressing ready to go you can marinate your Meats in this you can put it in your crock pot with your dinners make whole meals with it we like to use the powder sometimes we just sprinkle it on and mix the food around in it we use it in a few different casser rols it’s great in soups as well it really has a great flavor and um but your dressing is ready to go I like to let this sit overnight if we’re going to put it on a salad I like to make it the day before that way everything can really marry together and be yummy and that’s it so simple and easy and that’s it really it is so simple and easy to put this together you control the ingredients so you know exactly what’s in it you don’t have have to question it at all and it’s a snap to take your dry mix and make your dressing or if you want to throw it in cooking you can use it just the way it is and that’s it for today I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope to see you next time bye [Music] [Applause]

  1. I do two dressings that use a base similar to yours. In addition to your Italian dressing mix I add 1/4 cup freeze dried crumbled Feta cheese, 2 tbsp freeze dried parmesan, 1 tbsp crushed dehydrated black olives, ½ tsp freeze dried bell pepper, a big pinch of lemon powder and 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard for a Greek vinaigrette. I use 6 Tbs water to rehydrate the mix a little before adding the same amounts of oil and vinegar you use.
For a blue cheese vinaigrette, I swap out the Feta for 1/4 cup of freeze dried blue cheese.

  2. 1T onion powder
    1T garlic powder
    1T basil
    1T sugar (optional)
    1T salt
    2T oregano
    1 tsp black pepper
    1 tsp thyme
    1 tsp parsley
    ¼ tsp celery seed
    pinch red pepper flakes (optional)

    PREPARATION:
    2T = 1 packet
    2T water
    2/3 c olive oil
¼ c any vinegar you want
    Let it sit overnight

  3. Yum, Love Homemade mixes, much Healthier than those sachets. That one would be good mixed in some Mayonnaise, for a Pizza dip.
TFS HC, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶

  4. Do you have to put the salt in it? I was thinking maybe a teaspoon of that at the most or not at all☺️

  5. Yahoo. Thank you. Everyone does the ranch diy powder, but I've not seen the Italian powder. I have used the envelope over shrimp for years. It's delicious. Really looking forward to saving money and eating healthier ingredients with this. 👍🏻
