Thats lotus root. That looks more like sichuan food than anything from Japan. what is it?

As others have already said, Lotus Root! It can be found in Asian grocery stores, sometimes. When we buy some it’s in the fresh vegetable section in whole root form. We cut sections as needed over the week. Great stuff.
