What do you do to manage the tall growth of tomato’s so they don’t bend and fall over about 6.5 feet tall currently zone 6b

Trellis or cage. I build a trellis with small metal piping and a net.

I do trellis. I grow cherry tomatoes so I let three stems get to 6 ft, snip them when they get to 6 ft, and allow a new stem to grow from the bottom. The old stem, once all harvested, gets snipped off. I have to constantly prune it.

I pull the suckers so I only have 2 or 3 stems. Then I use plant Velcro to tie to an 8 Ft cane pole.

I am growing my tomatoes, melons and cucumbers up some $30 arches I got off of Amazon.

4 arches and I reinforced them with some metal posts on one corner of each side. I have about 14 plants going. It’s working a treat!

Since you already have tomato cages, you can flip one upside down and zip tie it to your current cage. Double your height. You could also just drive a pole or a 2×3 into the ground and tie it up to that.

When they’re young I pull suckers out and usually train my plants to have 1 stalk (sometimes I miss one and I end up with 2). It becomes a lot easier to manage their late growth and helps the plant direct energy towards a single point

It’s a good problem to have. I have 6ft. 4,×4 treated poles. If I have to and I usually do I’ll screw some old fence slats. I know that doesn’t help this year but there’s always next year.
