Unidentified bug damage, I check my plants on a regular basis and I can't ever find any bugs on the underside of the leaves occasionally I see small bugs land on top of the leaves they're about a centimeter long and maybe a couple millimeters wide and I shoo them off whenever I see them but I don't see them very often. There also are a lot of earwigs in the area. But I'm pretty sure they can't fly so I don't know why they would only mainly be chewing holes in the top of the plant.

Most of the plants the damage is not this bad but I took pictures of the tops of the plants that were in the worst shape. Virtually all the damages on the top leaves and the plants with the smallest leaves seem to have very little damage. Damage includes holes chewed in leaves and the edges of the leaves chewed off. As well as some leaf curl on the upper leaves. Can anyone help me identify this issue? Looks like it is insect damage.

Here in the northeast in Central NJ, the beetles have been relentless this season. This looks similar to some of the damage that I have on my leaves from them. I’ve been using the Rescue brand Japanese and oriental beetle traps and have has relatively good success since I’ve put them up in my yard.
