I just had this happen a few months ago. It was covered under the warranty.

My XL looks just like it. I’ve kept on cooking even though it’s covered under warranty.

Mine has a split in the same exact place

Haven’t really noticed any difference in the cooks, however, so I just rolled with it.

My egg is pretty old tho, had it for a good 12 years now

Yep if you got your receipt take it in and they give you a new one

This can happen when the metal bottom plate is placed upside down. It’s hard to see but one side should be labeled “this side up”. Seems insignificant but one of the two edges is beveled and allows for the plate to slide up when it’s heated and expands faster than the ceramic. If it’s upside down, the sharper edge can catch on the ceramic wall and push the ring outward

Mine is like this, I bought 2nd hand. Is there any repair possible? Or what is recommended if warranty is not an option?

Put the warrenty replacement somewhere you’ll remember in a few years when it gets really bad.

Mine broke like 2 years ago. It finally crumbled so badly that it would not support the grate. I bought a replacement insert at the hardware store.

Mine has a million. We roll.

I think I’m on my 3rd, all replaced under warranty.

Yep it happened to my large, I replaced it off the website, only once in 12 years tho!

Mine did this about 4 months ago, still cooks fine but the crack has now started to split sideways. I have had mine for 12 years so I called the shop where I bought it and it is being replaced under warranty.

How hot did you run it? Mine hasn’t broken anywhere yet, but if/when it does man will I be pissed

I got a 23 yo xl and have theee over the years, last one I’ve been shimming with hardwood shins lol. Just haven’t had time visit Ace . It’s been completely fine for me just the way it is

Yes and it’s an easy warranty replacement. Still works fine though with the break. Mine was broken for years before replacing

My firebox has been in four pieces at least five years In the last month I have slow cooked two 14 lb briskets, eight pork tenderloins, a turkey breast and pork butt. I won’t replace it until I can’t cook.

Mine broke, and I used it for over a year until it came completely apart and wouldn’t hold the charcoal plate anymore. Warranty replaced it.

Yes. I used nichrome wire to stitch it back together.

I got a replacement under warranty but still use the original since it works.

  20. That looks like what happened to mine. And it’s the new model. I’m getting a warranty replacement (now week 3 as I wait) but I don’t particularly like the new style with the split in it.

Mine just did that last week. I went through the claim process after my local ACE hardware store team told me that it would be covered under warranty (so long as I had a receipt.) Well, I purchased in the summer of 2010 and my wife actually had the receipt in a ziplock back. After getting the serial number off the inside of the egg (mine is both on the dome and base) I pressed with the warranty claim. They processed it and it took about 3 days for them to give me the green light for replacement. I had to go back to Ace and exchange the email confirmation and they’re now ordering one from the central warehouse.

If you don’t have a receipt, then you can order a new firebox from Ace which is only about $200. I did a search locally and there were about 5 in my local area who had one on hand.

Also, we’re still cooking on it in the mean time. Still works and isn’t causing too many issues.
