Two weeks ago I posted that I was deciding between the two restaurants and I wanted to do a follow up because I was fortunate enough to eat at both. I ended up canceling the Quetzal reservation in advance, but grabbed a reservation at the bar later on.

Alo was our first stop. My husband and I had been to four other Michelin-starred restaurants before that were on the casual side and this was our first time having a tasting menu with this many courses. The experience did not dissapoint. We really enjoyed the entire meal and our favorites dishes the mackerel, dungenous crab and the koshihikari rice. The service was incredible as were the two cocktails we ordered. We also enjoyed a few local wines. I personally enjoyed the surprise of not knowing the menu, but I wish we saw it beforehand because it was a little loud and hard to hear the waiters explaining each dish. I ended up getting very full when the main course came and our waiter was very nice and offered to box it up. The desserts and melon palate cleanser was incredible. We thought the experience was worth the price.

We went to Quetzal the night after and we were blown away by the food. We opted for the a la carte menu and ordered the empanada, tlayuda, pork secreto, and spiced Mexican chocolate. The pork was the best we’ve ever had and the tlayuda was our second favorite. We didn’t love the dessert, but maybe we didn’t order the right thing. The cocktails were also good but nothing mind blowing. If I come back to Toronto I’d love to come back and try the tasting menu.
